    Pros

At the time: Great department manager (that has changed) Competitive salary (must negotiate) Expansive cosmetics selection and beautiful store discounts -20% everyday , 36% at least once a month avg (36% in cosmetics 2-3 times a year), 60% twice a year for work appropriate clothing. 20% discount at Macy's stores +you can use Macy's coupons most of the time in addition. Medical benefits Great clienteling system Personal business e-mail

    Cons

Upper management is oblivious to cosmetics politics and how to intervene when appropriate Lacking diversity in management Human Resources is not human or logical. Since the stores remodel the culture is lost and aimless Diminishing client traffic mixed with frequent store sales and events leaves little stability in business

    Advice to Management

Hire more diverse management (race, age, artistic people, worldly people)!!!! Relax on the dress code and omit adding restrictions not notated in the employee manual. Engage in, and ACT upon creative/constructive internal employee feedback Continue praising associates customer reviews at meetings

    I worked at Bloomingdale's

    Pros

It was a good opportunity to work for a major retailer and the exposure to the retail PR world was very valuable. Given a lot of responsibility and was able to work on some really interesting projects. Overall a positive internship experience.

    Cons

There is a lot of bureaucracy in the company and you have to get everything approved by corporate in NYC before doing anything.

    Pros

Senior leadership, pay, flexibility, proud to work there, growth ability if you want it.

    Cons

Working nights, weekends and holidays. Technology is not their strength. If you like your current position you may find the expectations are hard to achieve after some time.

    Pros

-Decent pay -A lot of hours available -Great scheduling system -Great co-workers

    Cons

-Put too much emphasis on opening store credit. It was almost like that was their number one priority Even though I was seasonal, I became part-time after two weeks because a customer had bragged to my manager about how helpful I was. After staying the rest of the holidays, I decided to leave due to the pressure of opening store credit which I was not a fan of. If your good at opening credit cards then you will fit right in here at every store meeting.

    Advice to Management

Stop putting so much pressure on your employees to open cards!

    Pros

Good work environment, great discounts and incentives for employees. Great people to work with, which adds value to the work environment. Good balance between work and life.

    Cons

Everything is a learning experience. I appreciate the fact that bloomingdale's gives everyone, no matter job title to express their views, ideas and concerns and finds a way in which it can be implemented. There are always advantages and disadvantages when working in retail.
