I have been working at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

there is nothing positive about this company for any contractor.

    Cons

If you are hired to work for Blue Cross in Minnesota as a contractor. You will be treated as a dog/slave. You will have little to no rights in the company and the company that is contracting you out to blue cross is making just as much as you are per hour. You are and will always be treated horribly and this can be considered illegal. The amount of maltreatment that go’s on at this company for all contractors goes to show you how they value there employees. If any contractor voices an issue or makes a non-contractor employee look really bad at their job you will be fired and replaced with someone who will be more compliant. There is so much illegal activity that involves contractors and the lack of human rights make a person wander who got paid off for this to continue to happen…

    Pros

Good people in contributor roles. Facilities good. Seems to be community minded.

    Cons

Horrible Finance managers. I was warned from day one that the manager of my area was difficult, self-centered, and played favorite. All were correct. I was scolded like a child for checking the time on my phone during a meeting. Every day was like walking on egg shells. Glad I'm no longer there!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get good leaders in place that don't blame everyone else for their own faults. They were all "me" people.

    Pros

I cannot think of one pro.

    Cons

Favoritism between managers and employees. The number of calls is more important than providing great customer service to the members and they want the calls short and if the members calls back, you will get talked to by your manager.

    Underperforming Delivery Model IT EPMO

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

I worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota

    Pros

bonus, super laid back, totally work life balance --if you want to come to work to talk/socialize, and not have quality work output-this is your place

    Cons

meetings start with 20 minutes of chit chat, lots of chit chat in cubes, hallways, sometimes 1 hr long of visitors chit chat in cubes, social activities, relationship building (quote on quote) -- but no concerntration of improving quality deliverables, they hire socialbles vs analytical minds - IT very weak performance output. The soft skills set for work place is extremely misunderstood in the IT EPMO. Totally lack accountability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to improve their IT Business Analysts/BSAs , IT PMs with folks that actually understand SDLC and produce quality deliverables vs focus to survive on plain old quote on quote networking/relationships.

Worst job I've had in my IT career

I have been working at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota

    Pros

Work/Life balance can be pretty good if you're in the right areas. Lots of extra activities for employees to get involved in.

    Cons

Unfortunately my experience with them was one of the most demoralizing throughout my fifteen year career in IT. On-boarding of new employees is horrid. Management seems to hide from their group a lot and promote dishonesty.

Big corporate environment with TONS of busy, but needless tasks asked of you. i.e. run specific reports or corrections to reports that are never used for anything. Every area likes to point fingers and hide behind the "process" rather than try to get things done. Very cloudy processes that rely more on creating more work than actually creating solutions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nothing, because they won't listen. They are in they're own world.

    Pros

Lower management knows their people and act as a great advocate both for corporate goals and their employees.

    Cons

Upper management is two faced. Everyone knows they are shopping India to replace key teams but they won't come out and tell employees what is going on. How can you run a professional shop when you treat rank and file employees like children.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come clean with your employees. When you refuse to commit to us, don't act surprised when we don't commit to you!...
