    Pros

    If overall company performance did well, certain level employee's get bonus!

    Because of Obama care, multiple changes happening in insurance arena- great opportunities for advancement

    Co looks for and encourages new ideas

    Once stable & meet requirements, great work from home program
    Place heavily importance on work-life balance & ethical behavior

    Cons

    BCBS infrastructure very separated from it's subsidiaries, such as HCSC Services, which cause inconsistency with overall management, different products managed by diff states, you can work there and still not be aware of all resources or customers, So because of that there are no consistency in management/policies

    Frequently demanded OT x2hrs per day for weeks at a time

    Lack of communication at even the local office & upper offices, a director may tell a manager to chg a process, the manager may tell the supervisor, but seemed to be no communication to worker bee's and it goes on daily basis, very disruptive

    Promote individuals with lack of experience for there management roles

    Computer systems are ones they developed and it's so difficult to get productivity, crashes weekly and you can work another task while waiting screen to change

    Ethics & Work life balance go by the wayside, management does not practice ethical behavior nor provide any time or encouragement of work life bal, its only in theory

    Advice to Management

    Improved processes with some level of consistency, Improved automation & computer systems used for areas productivity demands, Employ upper managers with experience, if you have non-experienced senior management, sup's and team leads, how can appropriate decisions be made and they must have critical thinking ability not a bullying/brow beating philosophy

    Great Benefits, Workout Facility , Awesome Credit union and Nice building

    Cons

    Poor Management, Overtime during week and Saturdays , While on maturity leave my job was filed one week before I was to return after 15 years of service. When I reported concerns I was told I was being malicious. In a department meeting management told everyone " if you don't like your job then find a new one" horrible experience

    Listen to your employees concerns . Be more loyal to those who put in hard work everyday.

    Great benefits
    Can be hired without previous managed care or UR experience, bridge from bedside nursing
    Multiple bonus opportunities
    Down to earth atypical corporate environment-most staff very friendly

    Cons

    Disorganization/poorly defined/poorly implemented constantly changing processes stemming from upper management
    Highly unprofessional behavior by most personnel in upper management
    Unrealistic measurements/expectations of employee production
    Understaffed/unrealistic poorly funded in multiple departments despite volume/workload in comparison to how well BCBS Commercial is appropriated staff, funds, technology
    Frequent long hours required in attempt to meet production demands and NO OT pay
    Low base pay
    Very outdated hardware/software that frequently crashes
    While have good trainers, the framework they have to teach from set up by corporate is impractical and highly lacking-no real help to what staff actually has to do each day; training dept is not given updates by management when processes change which is frequent

    This is Good company to work if you are in later half of your career.

    Cons

    If you are entry level or mid level in career, you not gain or learn anything valuable to help you later half of your career.

    Advice to Management

    Promotion are not done based on merit.

    Pros

    Co-workers are friendly and easy to work with.

    Cons

    Excessive micromanagement. Changes their protocol every week for three weeks in a row while counting your production is unfair. I asked for more training several times. Then asked from peers that helped me. I had a serious health issue and was hospitalized a week and after a week back at work was told they may or may not hold my position for me. Altho, they claimed the time off into my production.
    Then, after two months they let me go. Production was good my quality was at 2 errors, 1 same day same error and was to have coaching on it. Their training is the worst I have ever seen. I asked a trainer a question and was told we have already covered that. And she moved on. Very poor place to work. all grey walls, No talking even signs up no talking, no whispering...Sad I have seen happier funerals.

    Advice to Management

    Spend more time training and less time micromanaging. Why have a supervisor with out claim experience? Makes no sense at all.

    Pros

    BCBS is extremely employee-friendly with regard to benefits and training. They seem to be most successful at cultivating talent on the lower-management level.

    Cons

    The management style of BCBS in Abilene, Texas, was a mix of micro-managing, destructive divisiveness, and selective privilege. While most of my supervisors and senior supervisors were great, upper management encouraged a very visible split between "us" and "them," using information or withholding information to make the separation clear. Often upper management was condescending, elite, and dishonest. Instead of utilizing the talent on the floor, they ignored their employees' ideas, concerns, and constructive criticism. The work environment fluctuated between demoralized apathy to sheer frustration, largely due to the breakdown in respect and communication on the level of mid- to upper-management.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employers, actually listen, and realize they have a better understanding of their jobs, including problems and ways to improve, than you do. Give them credit for intelligence and a desire to excel; stop assuming that only management is worth your time and attention.

    Mangement and Corporate's heavy hand in even the minutia of your workday.

    Advice to Management

    Allow outstanding performers, to perform. Increasing production is not achieved by calling meetings - you must let people produce.

    Excellent benefits. Great flexible hours. Plenty of OT at time and a half

    Cons

    Poor management leadership. Favortism from site director down to supervisors. So called quality programs are not beneficial. Racial issues abound in all departments.

    Advice to Management

    Learn to be professional and not one sided when issues arise. If you are senior management you cannot show favortism to your employees. Get a handle or the racist supervisors before a lawsuit happens. Stop RIFFing people and then having a month long hiring spree
