I have been working at Bob Evans part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Inconstancy can make you money. Short hours work with vacations and request for time off. If you have little experience as a server you can get hired and make some decent money. Bob Evans is a great summer or part time job. You cannot raise a family on the money you make as an hourly employee.

    Cons

They have very few full time positions because they have to provide benefits. Many co workers are in experienced and you have to pick up their slack.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should be more thorough with who they hire. Make sure people have experience or train them properly.

I have been working at Bob Evans full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Great place to start
Flexible schedule when you're a regular employee
    Great opportunities for growth
    Decent Benefits

    Cons

As a manager, you were expected to do too much for the low salary you recieved. I worked 60+ a week to only get paid for about 45. Upper management kept raising prices which pissed off guests, who stop coming in, and in return , upper management yells at you for not meeting sales goals

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to appreciate your employees and managers..they're the reason why ya'll make money

I have been working at Bob Evans full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The regulars that you become family and so do some of you employees. That I really like.

    Cons

time off policies and inflexibility for family functions. Bob Evans says it is a family oriented company but is open on Thanksgiving and doesn't have the flexibility for time off for family. especially managers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Everyone get on the same page. Too many chiefs not enough Indians. Change Time off policies for managers.

I have been working at Bob Evans

    Pros

weekly pay, great food, everyday cash in pocket if your a server

    Cons

computer scheduling makes it difficult to get days off , no tip out for credit tips at the end of the night, no paid vacations or holidays, open on holidays.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

show your lower level employees more appreciation like when Bob Evans was still alive. Been employed here since 2009 and I still have newer co-workers coming in making more money starting off than I do after 5 years of hard work and dedication to this company.

    Cons

I have been working at Bob Evans full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

I love being able to have contact with the regular guest and meeting new people.

    Cons

new management took over and now everything is falling apart!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I honestly think it would be beneficial for all employees to be crossed trained in more than one category. Since going to the 29 hour max for non specialist it's hard as a shift leader/manager to find a fill in that is qualified for the position needed. Another thing I don't understand is why can't shift leaders close the store? We are allowed to open the store and are trusted with bank runs, and change orders. Why aren't we trusted to close the store for the night as well???

I worked at Bob Evans full-time

    Pros

They are always trying to keep up with whats new in the industry. As soon as you get usesd to doing something one way they will change it!

    Cons

The pay scale is lower here than at other restaurants of this type. All units are corporately owned so payscale should be more consistant, yet its based on area you are in.

Former Employee - Assistant Manager in Fairmont, WV

I worked at Bob Evans full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There is a lot of room for advancement. Insurance is good. Fast paced.

    Cons

High management overturn. Bad senior management. Employee set in ways of rule breaking. Gm and agm and assistants never on the same page.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Check in closely on older management. Just bc everything looks good on the surface and on paper, doesn't necessarily mean they are good. There is a lot of clean up upon area coach arrival. Makes it hard to follow the rules when they are different when different people are present.

I have been working at Bob Evans part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The best reason to work here are the people. Everyone I have come in contact with are incredibly welcoming and friendly, making for a positive work day.

    Cons

Some of the challenges working here are dealing with the upper management, poor benefits, and nonnegotiable income. If you can make it to a senior position, the company is great. However, you will sacrifice all of your time and energy to do so.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give credit where it is due. Treat those below you with respect, and in turn you will gain theirs.
