    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember that your unit managers have their boots on the ground everyday battling to ensure the dream is achieved. Remember to praise them and not always look for the negatives

I have been working at Bon Appétit Management

    Pros

Good environment to work, great food, free food!

    Cons

You often have to fill up other people's positions which leads to working your own station and another, being pressure to finish two positions by your self

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More organization, appreciate hard work, set up good examples and fully understand a situation before concluding.

  5. Good experience as a student worker at a fast-paced environment

I have been working at Bon Appétit Management

    Pros

As a marketing assistant, I learned a lot from all the managers.

    Cons

Pay rate was low, but that was probably because I was a student worker.

I worked at Bon Appétit Management full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good team values, good quality food, good food with free meal available to employees, approve of corporate values, purchases support local businesses. Great experience as a fairly new kitchen employee where I was able to learn a lot of skills and techniques from seasoned and skilled cooks and chefs.

    Cons

Benefits are not available for some employees, if you are designated "on-call". A pay increase may not be given to employees if it is not requested, even when they are returning for a second or third season. Schedule changes were occasionally made without notice. During heaviest workload, management would overlook some scheduling and purchasing details which were important to employees and business success because they were overwhelmed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Generally, good work. I approve of the standards and mission of Bon Appetit. The only thing I would ask is that you be attentive to how employees are classified; Someone should not be termed an "on-call" employee if they regularly scheduled to work a full time shift.

I worked at Bon Appétit Management part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Company supports sustainable, local and healthy produce
Chefs purchase from local farmers when possible
Strong sense of community in the kitchen
The hours are good for working moms

    Cons

Some of the cooks did not care about their jobs or the quality of their food
Sometimes a disconnect between management and staff, upper management just didn't pay that much attention.
Not much room to grow, you stay in the same position
    Pay is quite low
Cooks could use more on the job training & skill building

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would do training workshops for the kitchen staff so that they can learn new culinary skills and dishes which would make them more excited to produce quality food. If you work in a kitchen you generally like to cook but culinary school is often not worth the cost so providing an incentive for your crew to learn would really boost morale.

I worked at Bon Appétit Management part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

It's a pretty laid back environment for the most part. Everyone is very friendly with one another. Team leaders are easy to get along with.

    Cons

There are multiple managers all saying different things or telling you to complete a different task. Sometimes hours can be extreme 10+ shifts. Operations are not streamlined yet.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appoint one head manager that caterers are to listen to. Streamline your operation so even a new employee can come in and get the flow. Start vetting new hires more stringently.

    Pros

The management was always nice and the food is of surprising quality. The school where I worked in 2007 was #10 for best college food. They have a great cafeteria and provide near gourmet level food for special occasions. As employers they were flexible and very nice. They have a passion for what they do and worked well with the college atmosphere, listening too their desire and requests.
