    Former Employee - Sales

    Pros

great benefits - second to none (medical/dental/vision/disability etc)

    Cons

heavy work loads, long hours, do more with less and less and less, no clear guidance if you are not in the same physical location as the direct supervisor; was let go due to elimination of position and screwed royally after nearly two decades of loyal service, out of most of a severance!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

value your employees for what they are - promote from within

Former Employee - Quality  in  Seneca, SC
Former Employee - Quality in Seneca, SC

    Pros

The Seneca plant has comparable pay for the area and adequate overall benefits. The location has a good local reputation and can be a good neighbor to the community.

    Cons

The current condition of the Seneca location is at best sad. The site is simply lacking. Seneca is lacking enough parking spaces, enough bathrooms, enough break areas and so on. The crowded and cluttered nature of the shop floor is down right dangerous. The passive nature of the leadership is disconcerting. The condition and age of much of the manufacturing equipment and instruments is shameful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please save this once proud part of the local community.

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee  in  Bellwood, IL
Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Bellwood, IL

    Pros

The benefits are comparable to other companies. Once you are "in" there are possibilities that might be explored but the proving process is long.

    Cons

Management does not seem to like pro-active behaviors nor can they tolerate to hear bad news of any kind. They are extremely reactive to the latest problem and begin and end projects as the next problem arises. Most projects end up as window dressing to appease the customer with the latest complaint.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get pro-active and fix your systems. That will go a great deal further than knee-jerking to every little problem that pops up. Stay the course and allow projects to complete.

Former Employee - Senior Compensation Analyst  in  Auburn Hills, MI
Former Employee - Senior Compensation Analyst in Auburn Hills, MI

    Pros

Relatively stable employment - even low performers are retained for long periods of time.
Compensation package is average to better than average. If you are eligible for stock options, the stock has done very well in recent years.

    Cons

Function w/in which I operated (HR) was neglected. HR Leadership lacked dynamism, global perspective. Businesses operated very independently and it was difficult to consolidate information at the HQ level (which was required for SEC reporting, for example). HRIS technology was almost completely lacking - much of the information was kept in disparate Access/Excel files and fraught with errors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Entrepreneurial approach to running the businesses seems to be working well, but there needs to be more consolidation of the back-end data sharing/administration. Opportunities to improve reporting accuracy, enhance productivity, and take out cost by doing so.

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

    The pay is good
    Smart, innovative people
leading technology in the auto industry

    Cons

upper management disconnected from subordinates, don't really know what is going on in the company. Also, many employees globally do not feel like BW cares about them as a person, which I find to be very true.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees and even people outside the company (BW customers) feel that the number one priority is to make sure you hit your numbers, so the CEO can get his bonus before he retires. If numbers are short, they will just lay people off, which is why they call the CEO "the axe".
