I worked at BorgWarner full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with, good product, and good long term goals. BorgWarner offers above average compensation for the area and a excellent benefits package which are very attractive.

    Cons

Mismanagement of resources and major projects has caused higher than needed turn over. Project were taken on with to few resources available which has lead to major delays. Overwork of the employees is another issue, as a salaried individual it was not uncommon to see 80 hrs a week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need more resources and a better understand of what you are committing to before your agree to it.

I worked at BorgWarner full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. The Annual bonuses based on plant performance have been very generous over the last few years.

    Cons

They absolutely do not care if employees are happy or not. HR is rude and won't even talk to employees (when they bother to come out of their offices). Don't bother to complain, you will be retaliated against, just take your beating and keep quiet. Too many layers of Management and very poor communication.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Happy employees would be more productive employees.

I worked at BorgWarner as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Cool campus(Pool and Softball field) and the perks that came with the job were nice too.

    Cons

Unorganized, and not challenging. spent a lot of time doing paperwork and testing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

interns can be useful if management includes them in bigger projects and with better training on the product.

I worked at BorgWarner as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

HIgh volume, cutting edge, new applications. Lots of applicable knowledge and uses with the hardware and technology. Great learning experience and a decent ida of understanding how a large company expects huge demands.

    Cons

Difficult environment to succeed/ focus in. Many pressures, weight, and blame directed in areas that were unnecessary which created a "belittled" feeling throughout individuals. Lack and delay of communication, and management somewhat disorganized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To lighten up on the severity in which others are directed and to assist teams and individuals in carrying out certain tasks/ goals/ expectancies.

I have been working at BorgWarner full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-Good management bonus structure-more forgiving of short-term (1/2 year) misses than many comparable programs
-Variety of business lines with different cultures. If one is not a good fit, another may be.

    Cons

-Often, playing politics and dancing around issues is rewarded with promotion, instead of making the tough decisions ("yes-men")
-Usual up-and-down of the automotive industry, with sometimes excessive focus on the short-term.

    Pros

Clear, well-kept facility. My department was insightful, I learned a lot from them.

    Cons

The opportunity for promotion seemed non existent. I had an okay job, but it would have stayed that way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward employees that do a really good job.

Former Employee - Engineer Co-Op in Water Valley, MS

    I worked at BorgWarner

    Pros

    Competitive pay.
Flexible schedule, very fair with work/life balance.
Excellent opportunities to choose a department or interest and further that interest.
    Friendly work environment.

    Cons

Command structure can be somewhat confusing.
    Unclear goals that change often.
Outdated equipment and aging products make production and quality goals difficult to achieve.
Poor front end planning means considerable "clean-up" work after the fact.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out what your priorities are and really go after that instead of running around playing firefighter and I'd bet you get better results.
