Could be a Great Place to Work, but It's Not

I have been working at Boston Market

ProsThe customers are 99% awesome. Lots of regulars. The food is fairly healthy and varied enough not to be boring. I end up eating at work more times than not, so this is a plus. The stores I have worked in have all had a cheerful ambiance with lots of sunlight.

ConsThere are no raises, and for management, there is very, very rarely a bonus. Getting a promotion is nearly impossible, unless you are a predetermined "favorite." Not much positive feedback from management. The corporation and upper management are severe victims of black-and-white thinking. They will "write you up," or even fire you, over nothing. Even giving a good customer a free piece of cornbread once in a blue moon is grounds for an "investigation." I realize you can't have people giving the store away, but a little more leeway for the managers would be nice. This corporation has a very stingy way of conducting business, when a more generous heart toward both customers and employees would undoubtedly make them more successful.

Advice to Senior ManagementGM's, stop being negative and condescending. Catering, communicate with stores. AM, recognize and utilize individual talent. Everyone, get a clue!

Run far, and run fast!

I worked at Boston Market

ProsBenefits are pretty good for the industry.

ConsIf you're prepared to live at the restaurant, this is a great place to manage! Support staff are paid poorly, resulting in low quality assistants. It's gotten even worse since McDonald's sold the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind some people that know how to run this thing!
