The worst experience of my life.....

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Boston Market

ProsThere are no pros to working for this company... There management turnover speaks for itself..

Conshaving district managers that use you up and spit you out. You are nothing less than means to an end, a number. In my 42 years of management I have never worked with such ruthless, disfunctional people in my life.

Advice to Senior ManagementBecome human.. Be apart of the solution instead of the problem..

Overworked & Underpaid

Crew Member (Former Employee)
Riverdale, MD

I worked at Boston Market part-time for less than a year

ProsOccasional free chickens at end of the day. Discounted food during 15 minute lunch breaks.

ConsCleaning bathrooms, cleaning the dining room, unloading shipments, prepping chickens, baking chickens, preparing cornbread, taking out the trash, and constantly washing dishes is tiresome work and you never get a moment's rest except during your 15 minute lunch break.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhoever the poor guy who does all the work that I was doing deserves to be paid at least $30,000 a year, but I was only being paid $10,500 a year.

Skimpy Summer Job

Server (Former Employee)
Southfield, MI

I worked at Boston Market part-time for less than a year

ProsGreat loaded mashed potatoes and cinnamon apples

ConsPoor hours, over worked underpaid. Managers have horrible team spirit. I was told by a manager who never worked an entire shift with me that I was a terrible person and given two weeks to get my attitude together or else I'd be fired. I'm a very pleasant person I was almost certain she had me confused with another employee. Used them as a reference not even 3 months later and they denied that I ever worked there!

Flexible

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Denver, CO

I have been working at Boston Market full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGreat crew! Great product! Benefits for some.

ConsNot enough freedom, too many restrictions from corporate, no raises or incentives. Corporate needs to know what their restaurants sell, marketing has to exploit social networks!

Advice to Senior ManagementGive raises to people that stayed with you during your bankruptcy and who worked their butts off to get you out of it!!!!

A depressing, mundane, careless company to work for.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Boston Market

ProsSome of the other workers are friendly, even management can be nice sometimes. Nothing else positive about this experience, however.

ConsCompany simple could not care about employees. My manager used to go back into the time clock and shave off hours to save money due to strict hour limits set by regional management.

Don't work here. The pay doesn't match how much you work. SERIOUSLY.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Boston Market

Pros-50% discount off of food
-met some great friends here

Cons-all my friends were fired/quit or are quitting
-I was serving food to customers until the dishwasher quit and then I was placed there.
-managers want me to finish about 30 minutes after we close AT MOST.
-work 6 days a week at dishwasher without a break.
-sometimes co-workers don't wash any dishes and when my shift starts and I'm left with an overflowed sink filled with stuff that was used earlier that day when the store opened.
-I had almost no training.
-expensive food(even with the discount my meal cost just as much as a #1 at Wendy's,maybe more)
-we toss out too much food that we had left at the end of the day.

Advice to Senior Management-your employees aren't robots. They get tired too.
-a dishwasher with a shift starting from opening to about 2 pm might help
-hand out some leftovers to the employees closing that day. We seriously get rid of at least two trays of cornbread everyday.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Not doing very well

Hourly Shift Supervisor (Current Employee)
Golden, CO

I have been working at Boston Market as a contractor for more than 5 years

ProsThe team you work with can become almost like a second family.

ConsCorporate will desperately change things in an attempt to make more money, including raising prices every couple months. They shove more and more work down the latter so that by the end of the day it's the people at the stores that are working the hardest without any raises. Meal breaks are almost nonexistent. It's not worth the pay for the amount of work you need to do. They promote from within to an extent. Once you reach General Manager it's hard to climb any further up the latter. The company is making desperate changes to further business and then reversing there changes a few months later after they realize it was a mistake. That in turn wastes a lot of company money. It's also a requirement to do local store marketing if your in management. You will be going out to nearby businesses and promote your catering for the company, with no extra pay for gas or the extra work.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey need to seriously realize that customer satisfaction may be doing well, however, employee satisfaction is severely lacking.

Worst job/experience ever. Do not apply!

Utilities (Current Employee)

I have been working at Boston Market part-time for less than a year

Prosmeet new friendly people.
50% off food

Cons-the amount of work for the amount of pay is ridiculous, I can see why they need more utilities.
-did not recieve proper training
-got yelled at and definitely felt unappreciated
-They say you can leave an hour-30 minutes early if you finish everything
-i bust my ass washing dishes for 6 hours everyday I worked and stayed for 30 minutes to almost hour everyday
-manager barely speaks english
-I was forced to work with pink eye
-Washing dishes for 6-7 hours a day with no breaks.
-I get crictized, yelled at for things I did not know about because I did not recieve proper training.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire a better GM! and Hiring manager! I knew I was going to be unappreciated when the hiring manager talked on her phone during the intervew for 30 minutes !

DO NOT WORK HERE!

Crew Member (Former Employee)
Tampa, FL

I worked at Boston Market part-time for less than a year

Pros-50% off food
-Maybe a friendly shift manager
-Employees that empathize

Cons-No free food (When I got this job I was broke until my first check. So no food for me, even if I was working a double.)
-They do nothing but point out flaws. And I mean absolutely nothing. How can you be a manager and still flip out whenever 2pm rush our comes? This happens every day, you should be used to this. And if it's 2pm rush, why all 4 managers asking me to do things like, "pick up my pencil," "change out the desserts," "bus the tables", when I'm taking Orders, because the line is out of the door, and there are only two crew members for two registers, and two order sections?
-Management is illogical and in-organized and flat out condescending.
- The hours are good if you have the experience, but they'll work you a double and then make you work morning shift the next day. That makes no sense.
-They'll put you where they want you. I'm bad with math and had my drawer short almost every day. If it continued I would get fired.
-I walked out the day before Thanksgiving because I was working 6 days in a row, and had never felt more demoralized in my life. It literally felt like a life or death decision. There's no reason you should feel like you are nothing when you are busting your ass for hours on end, every day.
