  1. It was okay

I worked at Boston Scientific full-time

    Pros

The company is a leader in medical devices and therefore you won't need to explain it too much when asked. The work can be interesting at times.

    Cons

Too many meetings. Too many layers of bureaucracy. Lots of politics and turf wars. Less emphasis on getting quality work done and more emphasis on marking projects complete to move onto others.

    Advice to Management

It used to be a better place to work. Never did recover from the ill-advised Guidant acquisition. Suggest they develop non-management career paths; not everyone in manufacturing, writing, stats, etc. has career aspirations for management.

    Pros

They get the job done, no matter what obstacles.
People are talented and strive to make a difference.
Management desires collaboration and innovation. They recognize teams/individuals for good work.
Most giving organization ever experienced. Always a humanitarian effort underway.
Promote flexibility with time schedules and work-life balance.

    Cons

Organization so big there is much bureaucracy; no facility to make quick decisions.
Company does not invest in IS, focusing attention instead on products, while IS does not have enough people to do their job without overtime and stress at all levels.
People do not have time for collaboration or innovation. Solutions are keeping fires out not leapfrogging global peers.
People hopeful when they arrive but leave when they find they can not make a real difference.
Too much outsourcing to India for support. Teams frustrated, internal customers hate service quality. They look to SaaS solutions so they do not have to deal with internal support system.

    Advice to Management

CEO: take IS seriously. Let them hire more people. Pay them well so they stay. All the good things IS tries to promote can not happen unless overarching leadership supports them. IS should be a partner, not an ugly step-child. They want to be strategic-they have the talent but need your financial backing to stop treading water.

    Pros

    Constant consistent work. Good coworkers.

    Cons

While I was there there were several layoffs which I was a victim of to end my employment.

    Advice to Management

I would have tightened up the staff. They didn't need as many employees as they had.

    Pros

Great peers to work with, flexible hours, company gym, work life balance

    Cons

management disengaged from front line staff, lots of cognitive dissonance in the annual review process. i.e. have achieved highest performance rating, yet 0% raise, year after year, with new policy,. have been told it is not possible to achieve highest rating. have been told there is no possibility of promotion. managers have no real authority

    Advice to Management

get over yourselves, you put your pants on one leg at a time, just like the rest of us.

    Pros

BSC has a unique product portfolio. Many divisions such as cardiac, EP, urology. I work in the field and have a very professional and supportive manager. Lots of R&D. We are growing!

    Cons

As a field clinical representative there is not a lot of room for growth. We share many of the same duties as the sales reps but only make less than half of what they do.

    Advice to Management

Provide a cross over option for your CRM FCR's who want to expand into a different division. Open up the EP field to your top FCRS's. Give them the training they need and deserve to do their best.
