    I have been working at Bottomline Technologies full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    There are great people to work with and the benefits are top notch.

    Cons

    The upper management Push, Push, Push to get everything done. Most employees seem to be overworked and under appreciated. There also seems to be a habit of cutting the workforce just prior to quarterly results so the "books" look more tenable to the Public Stock Holders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be more transparent and actually hire the staff necessary to carry the work load you expect to need.

    I worked at Bottomline Technologies full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Bottomline Technologies bought a division of Intuit's Financial Services. BT saw something there about the product lines and the customer base. But, as far as the human capital was concerned, they were picky and decided to retain what they needed and leave others such as myself behind.

    Cons

    I am afraid I can't really say the Cons are working at Bottomline Technologies. I was there for only 6 weeks, and then escorted to the parking lot with the proverbial cardboard box in tow. Some of my former co-workers who are still there say things are going well for them. So, if the company needs you and wants you around -- then, things might work out just fine for you.

    Geez--make up your mind, will ya'?

    I have been working at Bottomline Technologies full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    For the most part the non managerial people are good to work with, however there has been an exodus of good hard working people over the past few years. I can't say the same thing about senior management however. Health insurance is good. Basically if you are a junior level person and want to get some experience and can keep your head down and out of the way of senior management it's not too bad of a place. I wouldn't recommend that anyone stay longer than 5 years (get some experience and get out) or try to climb the ladder unless you are a good yes man and have a talet for stabbing your peers in the back.

    Cons

    The culture is really toxic at the higher levels - you need to constantly watch your back. The company motto is 'With and for each other' which could not be further from the truth. This all really stems from the CEO and flows down so until there is a change at the top I don't see the company culture changing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    The atmosphere is really driving good people away which is too bad - the strength of the company could really be improved if there was a shift towards listening to differing opinions instead of rewarding those who parrot the same ideas senior managment has already decided on.

    Pros

    Location
    Benefit package
    Bonuses
    Potential for company growth
    Strong UI/UX team

    Cons

    The company is bogged down by an overbearing network of bureaucracy. For being a tech company, it is ironically slow to adopt new and forward thinking platforms and standards - their corporate website is a glaring example of this sort of backwards thinking.

    Numbers and illusion of company gains are valued more than clear and honest communication with prospects and customers. Expect to have processes ignored and overstepped by management. The company does a good job at squashing any initiative or enthusiasm one would otherwise have for their position.

    Resign. The company needs less of you and more of those in specialized fields.

    Pros

    Location. Nice building but poorly maintained. Previous associates a delight to work with. Decent insurance. The poor reputation of Bottomline and how they drive and abuse their employees helps to open doors to employees searching for a new employer.

    Cons

    Dysfunctional overpaid management on many levels lead to high stress, long days/weekends with no gratitude and often insist when you work each holiday that you just take another day off. Like they are doing employees a favor? Salary range is low but compared to unemployment it's reasonable when hired until the workload of three employees is handed over. Like it or leave is their attitude. Overpaid upper management enjoy outrageous bonus levels following a raise freeze and layoffs. Very TOXIC environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire an efficiency expert to come in for one week. One week observing will save hundreds of thousands wasted on middle management. Have your remaining managers enroll in training courses and seminars. Threatening and yelling at employees hardly motivates or creates a positive working environment. Better yet, bring Joe back to set the company straight.

    I have been working at Bottomline Technologies as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

    Nice building. Lots of work, never boring.They have a great espresso machine in the main kitchen. Great opportunities to learn. Good place to wait out the economic recovery.

    Cons

    Absolutely horrible culture. There is no real Life/Work balance even so they talk about how great it is all the time. Most permanent employees regularly work 10 hour days just to keep up.

    They do not do their homework on mergers. They bought a large portion of Intuit's business but don't even have close to the infrastructure to integrate the group into the company.

    Bottomline has a horrible reputation in the area for over work and underpay. I know a couple of very talented technology professionals looking for their next move who won't event consider this company due to their reputation. They currently have about 40 positions right now that they just can't fill. Seems their reputation is catching up with them.

    Very telling of the pay scale. They have many VPs and Directors but if you look in the parking lot there are almost no high end cars. Usually tech bosses love their BMWs.

    Realize that it is not all about the profits. Treat your people with some respect. Pay them what they are worth.

    Strong financial management
    Stock price is strong and consistent

    Does not empower employees
    Makes promises it does not keep
    Constant headcount reduction loses key players and core talent
    Finance always wins over substance

    Stop telling your employees how important they are and talking about "We" when you don't mean it.

    Middle management lacks ability to grow. Petty people who can't manage in a bigger environment. Hurts everyone

    Pros

    Strong Exec team that has grown the Company (sales wise) over the last 5-6 years.

    Cons

    Middle group, especially marketing and sales don't have the ability to manage their teams or be real Directors. Prefer to sacrifice their own staff then face their inability to grow as managers and executives. Amazing turnover over great people who are then blamed for the inability of the people that manage them. Too bad. Great overall, but wrong team to grow with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Need a team that can manage a $250 m organization - Top can't do it all. Folks who have 'grown' with the position can't do the job. Time to bring in an new bench.

    Pros

    pizza friday's and 'party in the carpark'
    Good banter and people

    Cons

    - Management and Execs don't know their own solutions, value prop or the market
    - They don't invest money in their existing solutions and find out what their customers want
    - They take advantage of people who care a lot and work long hours for little pay
    - Sales people are paid too much for doing far too little
    - Far too money orientated - quantity over quality
    - Personal development plans are ticks in boxes - no feedback is ever taken on board let alone any changes are made

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I would get replace near enough all of them as they are far too comfy and don't innovate - they are loosing big customers due to their lack of vision and innovation.

    Pros

    Local company in NH seacoast area, lots of opportunity in the software development industry. Good place to work for "techies".

    Cons

    Organization is running a bit too lean therefore it provides a poor work life balance. Methodologies need to be refined and adopted company wide to be effective.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Invest time and money into the overall business's infrastructure and take the time to fully document your products to ensure the wheel does not need to be re-invented every time you implement your products to your customers.
