I have been working at Bristol-Myers Squibb as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Great schedule, awesome work/life balance, occassional work from home days, decent pay for a contractual employee

    Cons

They outsource so many employees. I am a contractor--I work efficiently, I work effectively, I have had multiple full-time employees go to bat for me to get a permanent job and to no avail--it is all about the head count. Very political, too many layers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give permanent jobs to those that deserve it. I would have given the next 20-30 years of my life to have a career here, but the politics didn't allow it. I do not feel valued as an employee at all.

I have been working at Bristol-Myers Squibb full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pays well and support staffs are great to work with.

    Cons

Inconsistency in rules, rolls, training, and responsibilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a more robust and consistent training program. Develop a team oriented approach to problem solving and trouble shooting issues. It may take longer but will insure that the problems are corrected the first time and do not result in causing other problems.

I have been working at Bristol-Myers Squibb full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible work options, exciting Oncology portfolio, some fabulous co-workers who are incredibly dedicated and committed to bringing new medicines to patients, despite multiple internal barriers and hurdles.

    Cons

Portfolio beyond Immuno-Oncology is questionable. Significant changes in senior leadership over the past 12-18 months has lead to a significant "'brain drain" at the highest level. Big focus on doing "more with less" has led to significant burn out and attrition.

I worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits and compensation are competitive with rest of industry. Low stress environment.

    Cons

Promotional opportunities are few. So few that managers, associate directors and directors looking are doing job swap to gain experience. Some people have been promoted but only so as to not lose the talent. Does it make sense that a Director has only two direct reports and no other staff?

Management promised me opportunities to gain experience managing but over the last five years no opportunity arose. My management admitted that the way the company was structured achieving my career goals would be challenging.

I worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

If you manager allows you too, you can telecommute (work from home). Unfortunately, many do not believe in doing this.

    Cons

They re-org every year. They layoff every year. There is no room from advancement. If you are on the A list, then good for you. If you are on the B list you're pretty much screwed. No professional development, they always claim to never have the money to train employees. Team building is generally a waste of time. No one adheres to the Core Behaviors. It's all about politics. You are working with Service Providers who give unsatisfactory service.
