Work hard, not appreciated, see a lot of people lay off.

    IC Design Engineer (Current Employee)
    Irvine, CA

ProsChallenging work, but not enough time and resource, always very busy. Good team members but many bad managers.

ConsWork late and see manager go home on time. NO promotion after 4 year. People get lay off end of last year and more work now.

Advice to Senior ManagementManager should understand and be able to do what all team members do, so they can understand and appreciate the work and how long it takes.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Horrible middle management

    Anonymous (Former Employee)

ProsThere are no pros for this company.

ConsTheir culture is to foster mistrust, unclear communication, and micromanagement. Long hours and unrealistic expectations. When the entry level employees know more than the managers you know there's something wrong.

Advice to Senior ManagementCut middle management and restructure the organization.

    Horrible

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Sunnyvale, CA

    Pros70 hour work weeks.
Raises are rare after your 2nd year.
Allow Discrimination toward non Asian or non Indian woman engineer's.

ConsFirst 2 years treated well. Thereafter, only a selected few are treated well.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you force us to work 70 hour weeks, than how about granting a reward or even a deceit raise.

    good..... only for old timers

Principal IC Design Engineer (Current Employee)
    Irvine, CA

ProsA lot of good technical people.

ConsGood only if you're a old timer, especially your boss is your old pal. Performance review is a joke. If your boss is a newly promoted manager... no leverage. Stock and cash bonus were decided way up the chain. Job titles are jokes, too. So easy to be an Associate Technical Director..... for integrating a run-of-the mill IP ? Only way up is kiss ass.

Advice to Senior ManagementWake up and fix the culture. Otherwise, Qualcomm and MediaTek will kill BRCM really soon.

    Stagnation!

    Principal Engineer (Former Employee)
    Santa Clara, CA

ProsSalary to feed your family, pay the mortgage

ConsI came in through an acquisition (Broadcom had paid a *ridiculous* amount of money for my company, we were all in shock (good shock) when it happened). I was easily able to negotiate for title of Principal Engineer. I spent around a year at Broadcom, cashing humongous pay checks (due to RSU's from acquisition), until I got super bored & found that my career was going down the toilet. I left for a much better company and I am happy.
Promotions seem to be very rare and highly political. Even if you come up with innovative stuff you are not rewarded well. Talent level is very low compared to other companies and industries (think Google, Apple). Ton of people who don't do any work and simply have fun, which saps your motivation too.
If you are a fresh grad, get the hell outta this place. Actually get the hell outta this industry.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more like Qualcomm

Too bad - great product but poor Senior management

    Manager (Current Employee)
    San Jose, CA

ProsGood local people that want to do the right thing but no support and no desire to change. The standard is "you don't understand we do it the Broadcom way."

ConsLack of advancement for good people and little incentive to makethings better. Everything outside of Irvine is operated like a unwanted stepchild and the bottomline is ALWAYS about money.

Advice to Senior ManagementWake up and hire professionals that understand and can truely operate your facilities. You will not attract not retain top talent in Silicon Valley unless you change.
