Current Employee – been working at Broadcom full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Good benefits, nice gym and flexible work schedules.
Cons – Sometimes there is a lot of stress and pressure. Will have to work nights and weekends and it's more of a thankless job. You don't really learn a lot and they don't really train you. Lack of career advancement and salary raises are minimal.
Advice to Senior Management – Need to revise the way each business unit gets bonuses distributed. If a BU did not do well but shared resources with other BUs, they should not get punished by getting a smaller piece of the bonus pool.

Former Employee – worked at Broadcom as a contractor for more than 3 years
Pros – Great team environment. Group is usually working on new and exciting technology. Nice campus with a cafeteria. Offer good benefits.
Cons – Annual raises are on the low side, if any. They compensate with RSUs (only if you do really well) but those aren't worth much since the stock isn't very high. Once the stock goes up, upper management starts dumping.
Advice to Senior Management – Be more aware of market trends. Instead of innovating, they just buy companies.

Current Employee – been working at Broadcom full-time
Pros – Easy to mix work and life balance with open schedule. As long as you get your job done ethically no one really cares the manner how you do it
Workload is not challenging nor is it difficult if you can play the right games to set expectations or delegate to someone else
The company is a great market at the right time. The resources are all there to make it great.
Cons – No sense of team or group. Coworkers are at best considered resources and at worst adversaries.
Thankless job. Not a whole lot of thanking or appreciation. No one cares about how long you've worked here your birthdays or anniversaries. There was no holiday party last year because it just "slipped" thru.
Compensation and promotion isn't merit based. The company really only rewards ambition and perception rather than action and productivity. More effort is spent on vision statements and self promotion
Lack of communication. Very little communication when people leave the company or join the company. If you didn't work with the directly how you hear about is through office gossip and rumors. Best way to verify is thru the company directory. If they have been purged there they are gone.
Advice to Senior Management – You say all the right things in statements but the actual doing is lacking. There seems to be a "Hear No Evil" mindset with management and they make decisions that impact us all without very little discussion except within their inner circle of yes men.

Current Employee – been working at Broadcom full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Has lots of interesting things to work on. Sometimes can get mundane.
Cons – Take an engineer, make him a manager without training, what do you get? Unhappy engineers they manage. People are not projects and chips.
Advice to Senior Management – Train the managers to mange people. You cannot ask an ex-engineer to manage people with out training. They only know how to manage projects. People are not projects.

Former Employee – worked at Broadcom full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Very talented people in this company (lots of PhDs). Group is doing industry leading product having significant amount of market share. Lots of things to learn and good for new grad to make their resume pretty. Very tight schedule so you can work on a lot of things in a year (and hopefully new things). HQ is in the best but expensive place in SoCal.
Cons – Annual raise is on the low side. Base salary is low compared to companies in Bay Area, decent if you stay in SoCal. Stock isn't doing that well recently which means don't depend too much on RSU when you negotiate your package. Lots of work with no "actual" reward. If you're happy with your manager saying just thank you after every project and saying sorry after every review, this is the right place. Oh....and the most important thing....having a PhD is a BIG+....treating masters like junks (e.x. you should do this and that instead of xxx, you expect PhD to do this kind of job?)...A PhD got promoted twice over just "2" years..true story. Getting promotion requires "being" the right person and "knowing" the right people.
Advice to Senior Management – Masters are contributing too...give some reward to them...

Former Employee – worked at Broadcom as an intern for less than a year
Pros – Some interesting activities and benefits
Cons – They hire interns all year round because interns are cheap. That's a electrical technician position. Not so much to learn. mechanical tasks.
