I worked at Broadcom full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and facilities. Lots of great minds to learn from.

    Cons

Questionable senior leadership all with background in chip design who doesn't understand clearly the role of firmware and software

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in software development and understand the development process. It is not enough to simply buy the next technology and integrate when the foundation was already shaky,.

    I worked at Broadcom

    Pros

Your job can be as much or as little as you want it to be. Be in control of your own destiny. ESPP and benefits are phenomenal in comparison to other companies. Some supervisors are better than others but if you try hard enough you will always find someone that is willing to listen and be your advocate if needed. Great perks like family day, gyms and cafe's.

    Cons

Sometimes for the higher engineers the work/life balance is not that great. I watched many people cancel preplanned/paid vacations because of a glitch and they needed to stay and it was expected. Be more proactive in determining the outcomes and possible problems that could come up so you can plan ahead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the "boys club" the employees all know and don't respect them.

    Pros

Dynamic work policies. Great technologies to work on. Broadcom always thrives to be on cut-edge technology in semiconductor.
You can openly share your ideas to work on the problems and have ample opportunity to keep learning new stuffs.

    Cons

Work pressure is very high in Broadcom. You may be handling ~ 3 to 4 projects at a time and may need to work on it on same day.
Employee should be given more chance to select their area of interest to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Broadcom full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great pay, lots of developmental opportunities, high level of responsibility, can work autonomously and take ownership of your job and career

    Cons

Lots of hours, lots of fire drills, no training program/sink or swim environment, highly political, high turnover, lots of approvals and process stalling makes it difficult to take action. Internal promotions are very difficult, but lateral transfers for development are encouraged.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your hiring process is robust. Trust your people to do the right thing and remove all the red tape and political posturing to enable your people to be innovative and take measured risks to advance your business.
