    Pros

    Cons

I worked at Brocade Communications full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Competitive compensation. Nice campus. Reasonable work/life balance. Friendly and accommodating department management. Civilized work environment. Better software opportunities than ASIC/FPGA.

    Cons

The ASIC department and projects have been scaled down. Company is very conscious about ASIC development costs and hesitant to make the investment. Hopefully there will be new projects in the future but as of now, there is more emphasis on merchant silicon. Software prospects should be better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is hard to keep good ASIC/FPGA engineers in the company without a road map for internally developed projects.

    Pros

Reasonable salary. Good work-life balance. Good facilities. Engineering centric company compared to similar sized companies

    Cons

Thought future roadmap is clear, it's not clear how to reach there. Management seems laid back. There is no aggressiveness from the management and engineers for the products that Brocade is far behind.

    Pros

Had the opportunity to work on different technologies.

    Cons

Brocade used to be a lot of fun before. I was with them a long time. It is all about the management. When management changes, the culture of the company changes. Some time for the better. But here it went in the opposite direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People are like the asset to any company. Be fair.

    Pros

Nice building, fun community activities, solid employee benefits with competitive salary scale. Fair work/life balance overall.

    Cons

Lacking and weak: leadership, measurable performance, management skill, corporate image, long term innovating technology roadmap. Prefer Mr/Ms Yes rather than those who is daring to make a difference and think outside the box.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the office politic between the departmental VP. Base promotion and review on performance and accomplishment. Have real town hall discussion with employees. Keep the talent. Have strong HR team who actually do the jobs supporting the current employees.

    Pros

Salaries are very competitive with good benefits, bonus structure and stock plans.
Most of the people there are great.

    Cons

Way too much politicking and land grabbing.
CEO changed during my time there, so there was a huge change in executive management. That created a lot of turmoil throughout the company. The CEO announcing right after he started that they would cut cost by $100M turned the place into a revolving door for individual contributors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would guess that things are settling down now and may in fact be a good place to work again.

I worked at Brocade Communications full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

As being part of an acquired company, the company I was with gave great options and a good salary. You worked on leading edge products and features.

    Cons

    Expected long hours,
    expected late hours of work
    lack of options/incentives from Brocade
little ability to move between product families
Rehashed products no longer bleading edge just cheaper lower price points as of the past several years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay ahead of the curve on leading edge technology and features
Focus on broadening portfolios SDN is only a small start
Balance work life/home life with incentives - you can not demand startup like hours without startup like incentives
Cross pollination and the ability to learn and move between product divisions
    Leverage assets across divisions

I have been working at Brocade Communications full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits and pay. Brocade pays a little above average and the benefits are very good with an additional 40 hours available for volunteer time in the community. There is a gym available onsite. Very good working relationship with development. Brocade hasn't missed a bonus as long as I have been here but that is not a given. there is decent work-life balance.

    Cons

Career dead end. Most people have been here (Broomfield Campus anyway) for many, many years in their respective roles which is a double edged sword in the sense that people are happy here but there is no movement. Managers don't seem to have the time or interest to foster career plans for team members. Other than the bi-annual performance review I have had to initiate all manager one-on-one conversations about career growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep chasing the IP side like the market wants to see, but don't forget Fibre Channel pays the bills.
