I have been working at Burlington Coat Factory full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

BCF has a lot of potential in the future. There are a lot of exciting changes going on here, and many of them will drive the company toward a very profitable conclusion.

    Cons

There is a very serious lack of action when it comes to management problems that are bubbled up from associates, and executive management would rather sweep issues under the rug than deal with them head-on. Very disappointing to see, and discouraging to experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take concerns from associates seriously -- the "ivory tower" syndrome is very real at the BCF office, and the reality of the business (stores, field, general operations) is often misunderstood by executives that set foot in stores perhaps once a year on Black Friday.

I have been working at Burlington Coat Factory full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The customers are pretty friendly, although they rate our customer service low. Great discounts for employees and the management is always trying to boost morale with potlucks.

    Cons

The incoming of freight is a little too much to handle at times, never enough payroll to process it and get it to the sales floor. Lack of training.

I worked at Burlington Coat Factory part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Some of the staff were friendly. Associate discount day was nice. Got paid weekly. Staff can be laid back.

    Cons

Minimum wage. Way under-staffed for each department. Can be too stressful. Some very unprofessional management. Customers were very messy and hard to pick up after- floor/fitting room. If you work as a cashier, it can be never ending sometimes and you don't get to chose when to take a break, they tell you. You can make more and have a less stressful job somewhere else. Management wasn't very friendly. Workers aren't very diverse.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people to the departments. Give raises to each worker? Recovery shouldn't be a plastic bin. Clothes should be hung not thrown into a plastic bin. Departments need to be separated. When workers want a day off, there should be a simple form to fill out. Training needs to be better. Have more cashiers and let then decide when to take a break as long as it's not all at once. Don't make workers stay later than they have to. Be more friendly.

I worked at Burlington Coat Factory part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The best things were making friends. Most of my co-workers were nice. My GM was also very nice-to me, at least.

    Cons

Too many responsibilities for its minimum wage pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management need to pay more and divide the responsibilities with more than one person per department. That will make employees more productive. They also need more than a 10% discount. Other retailers give 20% discount to their workers. I would have stayed and made a career from there but it was too much. Despite the smiles I displayed to customers, I was miserable inside, especially when I know I am a great worker. I received many great compliments from management, co-workers, and customers. I was trained in other areas within 2 weeks of hire. I also like shopping there- I still shop their sometimes.
