Don't care about their employees

Product Manager (Current Employee)
Islandia, NY

I have been working at CA Technologies full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGood benefits; flexible hours in some groups

ConsYou are just a number to senior mgt

Advice to Senior ManagementLayoff experienced employees just so you can fill the same positions overseas with people who are paid half the pay

CA says all the right things, but their actions speak louder than their words.

Business Systems Analyst (Former Employee)
Austin, TX

I worked at CA Technologies full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat challenges and online free training is provided.

ConsAlthough CA renamed itself, and promotes it has changed it's culture, it still has not changed its ways. The company lacks integrity from within. It maintains the old school mentality and poorly represent a global corporate IT company in 2014. High turnover.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo what you say and gain some integrity. Get your corporate environment in the now and leave the past culture by the wayside. Your employees are your best asset, treat them as such.

Worst company ever!

Vice President (Former Employee)

I worked at CA Technologies full-time for more than 3 years

ProsSalary is competitive
Work from home

ConsCut-throat immature executives
Culture-less organization -- they keep trying to force culture, but there is none
Title inflation is off the charts -- most VPs and SVPs would be managers (at best) elsewhere
Lack of clear mission/direction

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't use scare tactics to motivate people
Decide what the company's mission really is and own it
Flatten the org and level everyone smartly -- it will be painful but it will improve morale
Invest in REAL leadership -- hire externally and train your leaders!
Give people a reason to believe in and want to be a part of the company

Probably the worst place I have ever worked, including when I flipped hamburgers in college.

Technical Sales (Former Employee)
Washington, DC

I worked at CA Technologies full-time for less than a year

ProsSalary and benefits were OK.

ConsManagement hasn't clue how to create a compelling suite of products that customers want today. They also think very little about individual employees, who are just interchangeable pieces on a chess board to them.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo the company a favor and quit.

Great place to work if you only want to play political games

Principal Software Engineer (Current Employee)

I have been working at CA Technologies full-time for less than a year

ProsCA is a profitable company. Through attrition or "hard" work, there are opportunities to move up the ladder.

ConsCA does not write software. They purchase successful companies and work the customer relationships. When it actually comes to CA developing software, the process is terrible. There is an architecture team that comes up with architecture ideas that are of no use to someone implementing the solution.

CA is crippled by their finance and legal departments. They will never be an agile company as a result.

When a business unit is doing poorly, they offshore positions to India.

Advice to Senior ManagementAt this point, it is probably too broken to fix.

Typical corporate environment.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Framingham, MA

I have been working at CA Technologies full-time for more than a year

Pros• Free access to gym
• On-site cafeteria
• On-site children's center for those w/kids
• Great co-workers
• Good benefits
• Flexible (can work from home)

Cons• Boring culture & environment
• Different organizations seem to be very disconnected and confusing
• Preaches innovation, but uses outdated technology, software and equipment
• Desperately needs structure and organization

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't just listen to employees' concerns. Take action and do something about it instead of giving false hope. Too many changes within management. There seems to be a trend of people leaving on their own will, getting laid-off, fired or retiring. Company seems to keep shifting constantly and not sticking to goals and the task at hand.

It's the Place Where GREAT Software Goes to Die

Director (Current Employee)

I have been working at CA Technologies full-time for less than a year

ProsAs much time off as your manager will approve. Many holidays, more than my previous employers. If you are in to it, lots of events in local offices. CA is a great place for people who are interested in being "green".

ConsC & D Players who think they are better than they are. Discounting to win business instead of value selling. Terrible products to sell. CA is only interested in the subscription stream, and hold customers hostage for renewal business.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop the "process" madness. Streamline processes, throw off the choke hold that finance has over the business. If you do what you've always done, you will get what you've always gotten!

CA talks a great game about employee involvement and about caring for employees but it's not really the case.

Senior Consultant (Former Employee)
Scottsdale, AZ

I worked at CA Technologies full-time for less than a year

ProsCA "owns" some great pieces of technology.

ConsUpper and middle management will listen to what employees say but rarely take action.

Advice to Senior ManagementCall it "sour grapes", but my move from a small partner consulting company to CA was the absolute worst mistake of my long professional career. I wouldn't recommend CA to my worst enemy.

The call to "innovate" is the opiate of the mediocre

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at CA Technologies full-time for more than 5 years

ProsMany of the people who work here are perfectly nice.

Flexible work arrangements.

ConsConservative management that is trying to move to where they just saw the puck (not even to where it now, much less where it will be).

Lacks vision. Lacks visions across the board, from Management down to individual contributors. This colors everything else.

Business units operate with an passive antagonism towards other business units, undermining collaboration, often resisting the other's success in case it might damage their own position, and frequently duplicating efforts. It might be a result of the energy-sucking budget process, or it might simply be endemic to the company. Regardless, it is a slow acid to good intentions and long-term progress.

The corporate values are well-intentioned, but no one actually follows or applies them in daily practice.

Confused Management, Poor Direction, Layoffs

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at CA Technologies full-time for more than 8 years

ProsSalary and benefits have improved over the last 5 years.

ConsIt is extremely difficult to be successful mostly because of a lack of leadership and clarity of goals. They will use you up and toss you aside.

Advice to Senior ManagementRealize that employees are assets not liabilities. Get clearer about what we are selling and start building relationships
