    Pros

I was exposed to a variety of technologies and operating systems. There is a lot that you can learn there. The campus and benefits are also above average. There are a number of internal programs that are available for someone to improve there soft skills and technical skills.

    Cons

Corporate strategy has been slow to adapt to the emergence of Cloud based solutions and the impact that it has had on how customers purchase and use their products. As they continue to make changes the company has been understandably terminating unprofitable project/product areas while reallocating resources to new upcoming projects. Instead of reusing and retraining people for the new products they tend to lay off people and hire new ones. This has had a negative impact on morale.

    Advice to Management

While the company adapts to the demands of the Cloud based market, be cautious not to prematurely halt revenue producing projects/products that do not fit into the Cloud strategy. Put more thought into retraining proven employees instead of hiring new unproven people.

    Pros

If you are working in growth BU, you will have lots of fun, dynamic environment, and challenging career

    Cons

You can your loose your job in a blink of the eye, even if you are the top performer, just because management decided to reorganize

    Advice to Management

Think a little more ahead about the consequences of frequent reorganizations. This environment creates no loyalty to the company or the team.

    Pros

    Great work life balance,
    Good lower level management.

    Cons

Every year like clockwork there are layoffs which happen to coincide with the company not meeting expectations of Wall Street analysts. The layoffs do not appear to be related to related to job performance but more towards the salary that the individual makes.

    Upper middle management is disconnected.

Constant change of management and the direction the company wants to go.

    Pros

    Many good individual products
    Valid mainframe constructs and processes

    Cons

Focus on internal issues rather than the customer
Few integrations between products in the same category
Focus on services and mainframe revenues
    Terrible support for non-mainframe systems
Product managers and product engineers that are not available for discussions with customers

    Advice to Management

Create an environment where product management, support and sales teams participate with customers to ensure their success.

Overall, a good experience, but poor money management led to waves of layoffs year over year

    Pros

    Great development opportunities, talented employees

    Cons

Used layoffs as the answer to meeting the numbers year over year. This short-term thinking decreases morale and engagement.

    Advice to Management

Get better at budgeting and forecasting numbers and find a better way to handle challenges other than layoffs.

    Pros

Some really good people to work with and some very good products.

    Cons

Constant reorgs and layoffs make it very difficult to feel safe. This has caused low company morale. It is also very hard to manage career goals.

    Advice to Management

Pick a direction and stick to it.

    Pros

Decent pay, lots of opportunity, interesting place to work with many benefits

    Cons

Layoffs are random and non performance based. Every year you have to worry about your job based on unseen metrics and despite reassurances from management/glowing performance reviews

    Advice to Management

Stop outsourcing and rehiring, train people to do what they need to do.

    Pros

-Salary is average to above average. Sales and Presales are paid very well.
-Work/life balance is definitely engrained in the culture here
-Onsite daycare and gym are top notch
-There is a great "campus" feel when it is nice out

    Cons

-Much like the NY Jets, CA is constantly looking back at the good times. Also like the Jets, the strategy is thrown out the window about once a year along with a large part of the workforce.
-CA is more of a software reseller than a software developer. They buy companies and products, devs rebrand them and they are sold as a CA product.
-There seems to be a big push to transition operations to southern California and NYC. All other offices are experiencing constant cutbacks.

    Advice to Management

As others have said, just pick a strategy and stick with it. Stop talking out of both sides of your mouths. Employees constantly hear about retaining talent, but every three months top talent is laid off. Seeing members of Executive management at company functions would be nice (having them suffer through the Islandia holiday party with the rest of us would have been poetic justice). Be more transparent, especially with products. CA employees have no idea about upcoming products or anything new to be excited about.
