Current Employee - Software Engineer in Budapest (Hungary)

I have been working at CAE full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - The new Hungarian office is very beautiful. It was developed according to the wish of the employees
    - Some of the colleagues are exceptionally good at their profession
    - Interesting (in the good sense) events and education possibilities like English Fridays, party every Friday nights, etc.
    - Very friendly local management
    - The local management is open for the new ideas
    - Permanent foreign colleagues in the Hungarian office
    - Interesting work (Civil and Military airplanes/simulations)
    - "Google like things": Inspiration rooms, library, basketball, csocso, etc.
    - Flexible working hours
    - Competitive salary
    - It grows fast with a lot of promotional opportunity
    - A lot of opportunity for traveling worldwide (Canada, Germany, UK, Dubai, Australia etc)

    Cons

    - Most of the employees are young, there are no developers with ~30 years experience: missing accumulated experience in software engineering (you can count it as a Pros too)
    - The management is open and friendly, but not experienced. They learn much but their are overloaded (I think it is just a temporary issue)
    - Not too much girl thus/and some very strange and inappropriate/insulting jokes
    - The mother company cannot see the Pros and sometimes makes the positive change harder than necessary

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Try to lower your load, e.g. build an appropriate middle/lower management layer
    - Think in teams, not persons
    - Seriously consider to take something against the "strange and inappropriate/insulting jokes". It comes from the past and some of the employees are following it just by habit. It can hurt feelings and in extreme cases it can hurt the company too.
    - Keep it up! :)

I have been working at CAE full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Overtime is paid. Travel time is paid. Bank Overtime to convert to vacation. Medical is covered [flexible plans to suit single/married]. Travel is the best part about the job, everything from air ticket, to food to stay is taken care of.

    Cons

Like every big company, it will take you time to get noticed and move up the ladder. A great start to career but wise to move out later.

I have been working at CAE

    Pros

CAE has excellent growth opportunities in numerous areas. They are well positioned to weather difficult economic times as the blend of civil aviation, military and professional services allows strong sectors to compensate for weakness in others.
Upper levels actively work to keep employees informed about the state of the company. Management displays sincere regard for the well-being of employees, and career growth is frequently discussed. Performance reviews are annual and personalized, with relatively concrete and attainable targets.
Global, innovative and well-managed, there's a reason CAE was awarded one of Canada's top 100 employers for the last two years straight.

    Cons

Some departments may experience a lot of (fully compensated) overtime.

    Keep doing what you're doing
