I worked at CAL POLY part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours as a student worker; classes come first, then work.

Awesome boss in the media distribution services department.

    Cons

Couldn't work during class hours, so it was either pre-dawn or post-dusk hours. Flexible, but not ideal.

The MDS office is in a pretty old basement. It gets dusty down there.

    Amazing

    I worked at CAL POLY

    Pros

Everyone is extremely nice and I got to work on a wide variety of projects. The area is beautiful and so are the people that inhabit this wonderful place.

    Cons

Not many downsides, besides the lack of diversity. The area is generally white and lacks culture that can be found in places like Berkeley or San Francisco.

  6.

I have been working at CAL POLY

    Pros

Most people are good at interacting with others. There is a great sense of community, and there is always a place you can ask for help. I feel that I work in a low stress environment. The people with Student Support Services are great!

    Cons

There are many departments (in different buildings) that have to interact with each other. Sometimes working through the bureaucracy can feel unnecessarily time consuming.

I worked at CAL POLY part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Cal poly is one of the best places to learn. As an assistant you work under professors and learn a lot.

    Cons

The only real complaint I had was that I had to be in San Luis obispo, which doesn't really seem like a negative to most people. Overall it was great.

I have been working at CAL POLY

    Pros

Clocking in between classes is great--I don't have to leave the campus.
Faculty and staff understand midterm/final season and adjust work hours accordingly.

    Cons

There aren't many career opportunities in my field and the pay is average--which are both understandable.

I have been working at CAL POLY full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are very good for the area.
    Nice college atmosphere.
I like my department and coworkers a lot.
Good opportunity to move around once you get a job here.

    Cons

    Tough competition for jobs.
As with any employer, different departments and managers are better than others.
Have to pay for parking, if you drive to work. Parking is tight in certain parts of campus.
