I worked at CBS Outdoor full-time

    Pros

Experienced sales team is great to learn from and confident enough to have a good sense of humor in the process. Help is always available and asking for it is never scrutinized. Do the job right or not at all.

    Cons

Highly corporate, no overtime, strict dress code even for assistants. Be prepared for logistical changes on the fly as departments clash over details.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training could have been more hands on, but keeping contact lines open and friendly helps make up for that a bit.

Not really up to date in many ways, but then again, the technology of outdoor isn't exactly cutting edge is it?

    Pros

Established company with good name. Lots of experienced people to draw from. Good pay for the top tier/established folks. They clearly spell out all requirements for the job. Some of the young salespeople are totally rock stars and they are very impressive people to work with.

    Cons

You're on your own here if you're in sales -- no sales support people, no real help when it comes to CRMs or any other technological innovations (from 1999). The LA location was not the warmest bunch of salespeople on the planet. Every new person is treated as an interloper and potential competitor and is made to feel like they're an island unto themselves. Don't expect much in the way of training -- just go sell. You'll make some mistakes having to learn the products on your own, but most won't be fatal. Watch for massive overlap in cold calls (which you'll be doing a TON of) because the company refuses to use any kind of tracking/CRM system to let you know that the person you're calling as a new rep has been contacted 900 times before you have called -- or that they're already the client of an existing rep. You WILL upset people, and for some reason, management thinks that means you're doing your job, even if clients are perturbed by it. Plus, in a market as big as LA, good luck finding business that hasn't been mined six ways to Sunday already. The big dog salespeople take all the air out of the market well before you arrive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get into the 21st century with the CRM possibilities and training for new reps. You don't need to hold the sales people's hands, but you should set them up with all the best tools to help them succeed instead of just throwing them in the deep end without some support.

    Pros

Great media experience. You will make good connections.

    Cons

It is very tough to move up in the company, due to the large amount of employees who have a "tenure".

The pay and potential were good, but i did not care for the company culture in the Berkeley office.

    Pros

If you want to keep your nose down, do your job, and leave at 4:45/5pm - this could be a decent place for you.

    Cons

If you like to drink large amounts of alcohol and brag about it on Monday morning, this is an ideal culture for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Culture could use a few more mature souls.

I have been working at CBS Outdoor full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Descent experience overall, ability to network with a variety of business owners, great personalities to work with, excellent graphic design artist, fortune 500 company

    Cons

Senior management receives largest accounts, major accounts are distributed amongst favorites, "sink or swim" type of environment, employees prefer a specific person to deal with overall in management hierarchy, uncomfortable office with awkward location.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider being more open minded overall, don't assume everyone thinks your jokes are funny and don't take it personal when someone doesn't find you humorous, you should appreciate candidness and not reward deceitfulness, understand that simply because an individual isn't married with children doesn't entitle you to assume their life outside of work is less important or more convenient, try not to be as condescending and understand that ice in Texas is not at all normal…

    Pros

You create your own schedule, you have flexibility on who to call on and you create your success!

    Cons

The company is changing and there is a lot of uncertainty of what will happen to the industry in the Northern California area.

    Pros

Best General manger ever. Listened and implemented and rewarded us for good work, listened to all of our concerns and suggestions

    Cons

anything that had to do outside my office. Billing dept is absurdly dumb and lazy. Just plain and simple. Even had to call and train them on basic math and proration.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Billing Department helps in losing sales. Had three or more clients leave since the billing dept could't figure out charges, over charged and couldn't do their job.

    Pros

Great people, fun atmosphere and awesome culture.

    Cons

As an intern, filing paperwork was not exactly what I had in mind when I got the position. The office was also dirty and had ventilation issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give interns more of chance to go out with your AE's

    Pros

Ability to network with different business owners within the market you work; great co-workers; good benefits; team environment; managers have many contacts in the advertising industry.

    Cons

Low starting salaries; no possibility of moving into a management role unless you are in sales; a strong culture of nepotism; sales force is overworked; no training; "Behind the times" compared to other corporate advertising companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more training in the sales area for younger college grads/employees in their 20's. Hire outside of the company for management positions instead of promoting from only within. Be open to new ideas and methods of efficiency

Sales people have a lot of flexibility and freedom as long as you perform.

    Cons

You must be driven and aggressive.
It's kind of like a never ending sprint, it gets old.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to throw a bone out there once in a while.
