Small Department- fairly feel, limited room to grow

    Sales Assistant (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsGreat and friendly environment to work in. I felt like we were all one true team. Moral was sometimes lost, due to interoffice bickering between upper management.

ConsLimited room to grow. On the sales side, senior reps and managers have been there for 15 plus years limiting new entrants.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the opinions of your employees. I'd also train mangers how to manager to ensure career growth for all those that want to move up and on.

Prosfirst hand look at life in radio. fast pace environment, the occasional celebrity sighting in office, made some life long friends through this company.

Consa lot of work, for a little pay. felt very unappreciated by sales reps and managers at times. some training, but mostly a dive in and figure it out on your own methodology.

Good Company depending on who you report to

    Senior Account Executive (Former Employee)
    Detroit, MI

ProsAble to make good money if lucky enough to be at top rated station with a good account list to go with it. Relationships with clients. Benefits are good. Can be a fun business at times.

ConsVery stressful environment. Lack of creativity. Save your butt mentality. Turnover becoming epidemic.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut customer first. They try to shovel the same stuff to each customer. Treat your employees as if they matter and are an important part of a team instead of replaceable. Some managers are quick to take the credit and also quick to blame others. Lots of favoritism.

Rates frozen since the early 90's at CBS Radio

    Radio Personality (Former Employee)
    Farmington, CT

ProsGreat market to work in. If you want the hours and you are reliable, you get the air time.

ConsThere is no way to move out of part-time status. Full-time talent aren't going anywhere. CBS Radio is afraid to change with fresh talent. Apparently old talent is good enough is a trendy radio station.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your on air staff and mentor them and guide them if they would like to pursue a full-time career in radio.

No real opportunities for career growth

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsOverall the people were nice and seemed generally competent at their roles.

ConsThe company offered not opportunities for training, most people were complacent and without any sort of training processes seemed behind and weren't nearly as productive as they could be.

Advice to Senior ManagementFigure out a way to keep your employees incentivized to continue challenging themselves and grow.

It was a great place to learn at a fast paced. It was a also a great place of high energy and meeting deadlines.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsEarning a transferable skill set that can apply to other positions in the future.

ConsI wouldn't recommend the position as an Account Executive because the compensation is very low (despite the economy and different philosophies), a minor change in your book of business can make or break you, and ability to grow is not to clear or promising.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou need to let go of your EGOS, and start being more honest with your employees.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
