I worked at CDI Engineering Solutions full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I can't offer much good to say speaking about the company. My pros were all about the people with whom I worked in my office.

    Cons

The Engineering arm keeps changing people at the top and their game plan but the results don't change. They don't understand that staffing and full-service engineering are two completely different business models and should be run as such. There is a reason why Adecco and Kelly don't run engineering offices.

As such they don't understand the need for spending money on business development. I was always challenged to develop clients without spending any of my precious Indirect (overhead) $$.

They are now in a mode of reorganizing and lopping heads to make their targets. They need to truly start from scratch and bring in some new blood.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Either make a commitment to being a true engineering company or get out of the business.

I worked at CDI Engineering Solutions

    Pros

The U.S. Navy Fleet Forces is their main client at the DC location, so if you want to be involved in Naval Maintenance support, you may be interested in the subjects they cover. They are willing to acquire software (occasionally) if you have a demonstrable need for it.

    Cons

The leadership is poor, doesn't promote, and instigated several workplace disputes while I was there. They bordered on EEO violations (a mother was told to go to the bathroom if she had to breastfeed, etc.). Many were hourly employees, but were asked to work unpaid hours (and promised overtime by certain management, and then denied it by others). It was a negative environment.

I have been working at CDI Engineering Solutions full-time

    Pros

Great people to work with (for those who will still be there, extremely high employee turn around), will learn a lot about drafting and GD&T

    Cons

Everyone is looking for a new job, employees arent happy, low promotions (1-2% a year), willing to offer more money to employees only after they give their notice

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care more about your employees and your employees will, in turn, learn to care for the company

I worked at CDI Engineering Solutions

    Pros

CDI is very flexible with taking time off work. The environment is also very relaxed and most people are very friendly. It is a good way to get experience with a variety of projects.

    Cons

You'll have to move your desk several times becaue they can't keep anyone in the same spot. It is also nearly impossible to be promoted to a better position since there is nowhere to go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide training sessions with pay. Setup mentor relationships.

    Pros

Flex time is the only thing worhwhile here. There is also the possibility of being discovered as a potential employee for the feeder company.

    Cons

Management made employees take 2 pay cuts in 2 years. Medical insurance is bad also. They send you home if theres no work w/o pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please get better insurance for your employees. It is unethical and immoral to force employees to take pay cut when the feeder company (GE) still get paid by the US gov't the same.

I worked at CDI Engineering Solutions

    Pros

Small business feel in a large corporation.
Salary is slightly above the norm for some positions.
Computer hardware and software are top-notch.

    Cons

Quick to dismiss billable employees that no longer have projects to bill to. No "bench strength" supported despite always being told by management, they do. THEY DON't!
Constant reorganizations, senior management replacements. This seems to fuel uncertainty and fear among the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Address quality issues and fix them immediately. Listen, respond to and resolve complaints voiced by external customers.
