I worked at CEMEX full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Training, people you work with (most of them) are ok. Benefits are ok.

    Cons

For some reason management is looking to catch you doing something wrong than right.

    Advice to Management

Would it matter if I did?

    Pros

I think if you are a new graduate and are willing to live where ever, the opportunities at Cemex are endless. You can move into different areas if you are interested and willing to relocate. Also if you want to experience other countries, this would be available.

    Cons

    1) When senior management wants something "now", they don't care if it means a lot of overtime or time away from families. You can be compensated monitarily, but you will be worked hard for it. 2) Not a lot of communication from management down. 3) Work/Life balance is not as depicted on website.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more with lower levels and encourage/insist middle management communicates downward. If your website says you believe in work/life balance, then walk the talk.

I have been working at CEMEX full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Global leverage is there but due to downsizing people do not have enough time to network with those outside the country.

    Cons

Autocratic and bureaucratic management practices are taking the toll on this company. They are not able to grow as other players in the market which has caused them to lose market share.

    Advice to Management

    Hire young and smart people

I worked at CEMEX full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Expert, professional committed ground-level staff. Products you can be proud of. Probably still the best construction materials company around.

    Cons

No life-work balance. Staff seen as dispensable commodities and expected to do the work of 2 or 3 people. Endemic, sometimes blatant sexism - embarrassing for any man to see who has any sense of decency. Climate of fear where people are frightened to say when anything is wrong in case they are victimised or blamed for it.

    Advice to Management

    Treat your staff with respect.

    Pros

one of the best payed companies in Mexico, recognition, opportunity to learn and work with BCG consultants to review straegies

    Cons

financial crisis, company broken up, lack of direction, lack of a career plan and future in working. lack of support to pursue further education

    Advice to Management

It would be good if you kept employees informed about changes, it has been almost two years of restructuring which is a pain.

Current Employee - Process Design Junior Consultant in Monterrey, Baja California (Mexico)
    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

prestige, networking, compensations, travel opportunities, global working, there is so much disorder and disaster that you are able to learn from as much as you want. there is plenty brilliant people. There are several resources that have been aquired which can lead to the knowledge of several technologies, processes and methodologies.

    Cons

working hours are long, appraisals are few, opportunities are restricted depending on who you know and who are you famiiarly related to people. Disconnection amongst areas, disorder and quick reactions are a must. The only thing that doesn't change is change itself. Decisions in the operations are neither planned nor conciously thought. Conflicts of Interest are a day to day situation.

    Advice to Management

it is important to form people and form senior and junior management in order to preserve the business knowledge.
