I worked at CGG full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good pay, excellent benefits, van pool reimbursement, flexible hours (unofficially, depending on the manager and position)

    Cons

Far too political, too bureaucratic, nearly all management all based in France (except where to do so would cause a riot) where the culture is to yell to get things done, unrealistic expectations from upper management, poor communication, short sighted approach, work life balance only improves once you decide to NOT CARE.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the goals for bonuses achievable, and communicate them FULLY and CLEARLY. Give a reason for employees to care. Cut out the politics. Empower employees, instead of disenfranchising them.

I have been working at CGG

    Pros

The benefits are awesome, CGG as a company loved their employees. Great location.

    Cons

I worked in the ESC and the group was unprofessional. The environment of HR was a "clique" and if you didn't fit you weren't looked at for anything. Pay is too low for the amount of work you do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get better management!

I have been working at CGG full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you are a hardworking Chinese geophysicist you have found a piece of heaven at Houston's data processing center, located right on the edge of Houston's own Chinatown.
CGGVeritas provides you an authentic Chinese cultural and work experience, without ever leaving Texas.
Most of the workers here are Chinese and you will find it not necessary to speak English, as Chinese is the predominant language spoken in the office.
Most all the top managers are also Chinese which is nice.

    Cons

The processing department is run similar to Chinese sweatshops, just with better pay.
There is a revolving door of new hires coming in to replace the worn and burnt out.
Be prepared to work 80 hr weeks.

I have been working at CGG full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Cutting edge technology

    2. Steep learning curve for interested people

    3. Knowledgeable employees

    4. Free lunches and well equipped break rooms

    Cons

    1. Work-life balance - forget it if you want to get noticed!

    2. Management does not care about employees needs; just interested in making money

    3. Too much of hierarchy in the organization

    4. Being a 'normal' person does not help one's professional development or career growth

    5. Company is interested in just hiring new talent, not retaining the old ones.

    6. Many managers lack people skills and professionalism

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize employees needs and help them grow professionally. Respect and reward experienced employees accordingly. Spend time to listen to them and understand what their needs are. Train managers to treat people with more respect and values. Think of a way how to retain experienced employees, otherwise they're going to keep leaving.
