Current Employee – been working at CGI Federal full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – -The benefits a large company can offer
Cons – -I joined a small businesses that over the years was purchased by others and ended up in CGI Federal. I find it very impersonal with a great amount of internal politics that hinders productivity and upward mobility. I'm moving over to a small company again.
Advice to Senior Management – Quantity of employees does not equate to quality of a company. Your employees are your greatest asset and if you don't treat them properly, they will move on.

Former Employee – worked at CGI Federal full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Good benefits. Great teammates. Provided with the opportunity to gain a lot of responsibility. Training was encouraged.
Cons – Assessment process is too subjective and disorganized. Found it difficult to move between projects. Difficult to get promoted - no standard criteria to meet.
Advice to Senior Management – The company needs to feel more cohesive - it felt very disjointed and each project operated differently based on the project manager.

Current Employee – been working at CGI Federal full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – They say they care about work/life balance, and company policy seems to reflect that, but account group/project policy is often "meet client demands at any cost, regardless of whether or not it's reasonable."
Cons – Middle/upper management over-promises constantly, leaving the people actually performing project tasks on the hook for unreasonable deadlines and/or impossible requirements.
401(k) matching stinks, too. Absolutely not competitive at all.
Advice to Senior Management – Corporate policies about flexible scheduling and work/life balance need to permeate the company, and not simply be discarded when they're inconvenient.

Current Employee – been working at CGI Federal full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – -Work culture is flexible (you can work remotely if needed)
-As a college hire, you will get a good amount of guidance and support from your work peers and will have breathing room to learn the ropes.
-Interesting and rewarding work with government agencies that serve the general public.
-Company has weathered the entire recession without performing layoffs, and has in fact grown its work force at a rapid rate while many of its competitors have downsized.
-HR Recruiting does a good job of finding bright, talented and well-rounded individuals for the company.
Cons – -Company cares more about their clients than their employees, probably a result of their constant efforts to enter and dominate the business space.
-As a result, the company tries to get as much work done for their clients with the least number of resources in order to be more marketable, impacting the work-life balance of employees.
-Non-employee contractors have better work-life balance than employees because the company is reluctant to pay them overtime, so instead loads extra work on employees. Employees do not get overtime pay; you are expected to put up to 8 extra hours a week in free, and anything above that accrues in a vacation bank capped at 40 hours only if you work more than 8 extra hours for two consecutive pay-period weeks. Unfortunately, if your project is busy enough for you to be working enough overtime to accrue hours, you will not be able to use any of the hours to take time off, so you will eventually cap out and not be able to accrue anymore. It's a ridiculously flawed system.
-Their career management framework is not adequately enforced or monitored, leading to limitations on upward mobility and recognitions and job satisfaction. Depending on your senior management, you could get promoted a year out of college or be waiting 5 years with no career options in sight, with HR not effectively tracking the process. There is no clear communication on what an employee needs to do to move up in the organization. Member expectations are often ambiguous, which allows management to squeeze the lifeblood out of you if you are a dedicated, driven worker but still give you an average performance rating at the end of the year.
-The company has very few official titles, so monetary promotions are very sparse. Everyone starts out with the title of 'Consultant', and to get to the next title you have to be in a management role. The titles after that represent tremendous leaps in responsibility. If you need frequent validation and recognition for your contributions via titles and promotions, this is not the company for you.
-Minimal training options are available to employees, and there is no real connection made between the learning modules available and your career advancement options in the company. It is quite disconnected.
-Performance reviews are not utilized the way they should be. Managers seem to do them because they have to, not because they are meant to serve a purpose. As a result they are often done too late to factor into salary review finalization by HR, who don't even care to check if the performance reviews were completed before proceeding, and this is after you may have had to chase after your manager for weeks to have your review done.
-Salaries are below average for the DC metro area, but good medical and dental plans partially make up for it.
Advice to Senior Management – Improve enforcement of career management and performance review processes. They are really sub-standard for a company of this size and market presence.

Current Employee – been working at CGI Federal full-time for less than a year
Pros – They value home life and are very flexible with schedules.
If your looking for a job right of college, they will hire you.
There's a lot of flexibility for changing to different projects if you don't like the one your in.
Cons – No training what so ever is given. They expect you to just jump in and learn something you have no idea about how to use.
Everyone seems disconnected from each other because almost all communication is done through email.
Advice to Senior Management – You need to have more training options available to new hires, especially for the technical side.

Current Employee – been working at CGI Federal full-time for less than a year
Pros – Decent Salary for the region, ability to telecommute, unlimited sick days. Share Purchase Plan is solid.
Cons – Anti-Social atmosphere, could work days without takling to anyone. Benefits are average at best. No efficient training. Overload of information. General lack of guidance. Worked here for several months and nobody knows what I am supposed to be doing month to month. Lack of feedback or encouragement...
Advice to Senior Management – Define a career path and what has to be done to reach it. I am affraid that I can work here for YEARS and never leave this desk, this job, and never get paid more than what I am making now.

Current Employee – been working at CGI Federal
Pros – CGI offers a very good work-life balance, with very understanding management.
Unlimited sick days and in general a good sense of team.
Cons – Commutes often split between Fairfax, VA and Washington, DC.
There is a lot of tolerance for sub-standard employees which can be frustrating under tight deadlines.
Advice to Senior Management – Probably time to revisit the mission of CGI FederaI. The current strategy of milking profit from T&M contracts is going to result in a deprecation of the company brand.
