    Pros

    Hmm...I learned a lot.

    Cons

A stressful, toxic, miserable place to work. Unloyal: an employee of 22 years, fighting colon cancer was let go.

    Advice to Management

Managers ... learn to manage. Don't make the people YOU are supposed to manage scurrying around for projects to charge their time,

    Pros

    -Decent pay rate
    -Larger firm
    -Organized

    Cons

    - Will not work with your schedule if you have any sort of disability or sickness.
    -No room for advancement
    -Management is very unprofessional
-Very little diversity (in the PGH office at least)
-Little to no training for new programs
    -No HR help

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees more regardless of time spent with the company. Fire those in the management position that disrespect employees and work on helping those with disabilities or sickness' instead of shaming them.

    Pros

CH2MHILL is a world-wide company with many offices. They are involved with many kinds of projects in lots of places. There are some great people that work for CH2MHILL. It can be a decent place to work as long as you have a billable project number. Company may pay you overtime hourly if you have greater than 40 hours per week of client-billable work.

    Cons

Horrible management of the company and employees. No communication or even attempt at sharing information in this massive company. Management does not care about the little people who are actually the ones that bring in the money to pay for all the upper level and admin staff that exist on overhead. Very top-heavy with management and I'm not sure what they all do. Make sure you cover your back always at CH2MHILL. Doesn't matter how long you work there, there is no return loyalty. Management will not help keep you busy, billable, or even care if you can't get 40 hours per week. But they will take your vacation time or just not pay you, even if you are "salaried". Their definition of salary is not industry standard and of course benefits the company and hurts the employee. Don't believe the "ethical company" statements.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to learn to actually manage and communicate. They need to care about their employees and recognize their efforts. This doesn't have to be monetarily - a simple figurative pat on the head would go miles to improve morale. The employees make the place and work very hard to try to save a sinking ship. The company needs to spend money on things that matter - not millions on rebranding to an unoriginal new purple logo that looks scrawled in crayon. Lose the top-heavy management structure and all the admin overhead wastes.

    Pros

Co-workers are awesome people who are working very hard to make this a great company again.

    Cons

Mess...it is one hot mess right now. Continuous layoffs have eroded the company and the employees.

    Advice to Management

Stop blowing $5 Million on rebranding only to layoff numerous employees. Take care of your people and then they will take care of you.

    Pros

When Ralph was there -- nothing same or much good since he is gone...previous and current CEOs both a disaster.

    Cons

Lack of qualified executives. How many have any real recognized leadership position in their areas of expertise? Lack of qualified board -- placing a failed leader from UK (now sports) is good example. While he speaks all the lingo he has no career accomplishments. He was open joke in London and now he is on the Board? Chosen because he is yes man. Rio Olympics next disaster on his watch.

What has ceo ever really done?? A female CEO openly talking about the "girls club"?? Really?

Compare and contrast this company to when Ralph ran it. Very clear identity and values. He was also respected throughout the industry.

Current shareholders need to watch what board does to keep share price inflated and to reward themselves. How long can that last? The best thing that can happen is for this company to be sold and to go public -- that would force a more professional board to be formed and to ensure the executive team is qualified to run this once proud company. Very sad to see this happen. Will make a good case study some day.

    Advice to Management

Sell to qualified buyer -- get out while there is still a semblance of a company. There are still a lot of really good people there.

    Cons

Stop toting around your degrees and prior military experience and actually do some work. Mentor junior staff.

Lions Led by Donkeys (in Virginia)

    Pros

Challenging projects, good benefits, growth opportunities for inner circle members only.

    Cons

Narcissistic, self-important, often inept managers in Virginia who get others to do their work for them and contribute very little. Incompetent managers who always improvise in addition to favoritism and lack of transparency have tarnished the company reputation in the whole region.

    Advice to Management

The company should clear out all the ineffective "old guard" managers and make management lean and effective in VA. Management thinks that they are a cut above the rest - they are in denial. That is a backward management culture. Restructuring is needed very badly in VA before it is to late. Upper management needs to rescue VA offices from the tyrants and provide relief for the staff who are actually doing the work. Unfortunately I heard from many hard working and honest people that they're actively looking for jobs. I don't blame them.

    Pros

    Flexible work hours and teleworking

    Cons

"Good old boy" management club (inner circle).
Little to no promotions or raises to those not in the inner circle
Company does nothing to help employees stay billable
If you are not fully billable, expected to use PTO or leave without pay even if you are salaried.

    Advice to Management

Force the inner circle 'good old boys' into early retirement or lay them off.
Promote the workers that really contribute to the company.
Don't waste money on rebranding and a new logo. The company will still been known as arrogant and out of touch unless they shake up the inner circle.

    Pros

The stuff the company holds most employees on by threads: decent salary, 401K and health insurance.

    Cons

Other reviewers have nailed the cons - which basically sum down to: the company treats its employees like cogs. You are part of a machine and nothing else. Working there is not technically challenging at all - but you will be stressed out of your mind trying to fill your timecard. On that note - PM's micro-manage every hour of your time and there is a lot of "under the table" wage theft. Also - why do you think they are re-branding? Because they have done some horribly bad things and just are not a good company...

    Advice to Management

Realize that what makes an engineering firm (particularly in consulting!!) is its people. Nice try at making a new logo...but with thousands of unhappy employees, nothing will make you better until you stop treating your employees like cogs.
