    The good is gone

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Canonsburg, PA

ProsA few years ago, benefits and salary were above average. Currently, benefits have been reduced, and salaries frozen, however, they are still not too bad compared to similar positions in the southwestern PA area.

ConsAs far as employee work satisfaction, performance, and personal well-being, management does not take into account any employee feedback whatsoever. There are no incentives to do a better job at one's position, other than a mandatory faux employee performance appraisal once a year, which is only reflected on a few bucks more or less from the STIC. In reality, there is no short term (monthly / weekly) follow up on improvement, nor there is voice for employee's concerns, opinions, ideas, or needs.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the ones who do the actual work. Maybe things could be done a lot more efficiently, if they knew what happens at the core of every task, and what pitfalls could be avoided.

One of the safest coal mining companys to work for.

Shuttle Car Operator (Current Employee) Cameron, WV

ProsDecent pay and benifit package. Again, maybe the safest company to work for. Large volume of coal produced insures continued employment. Fellow workers are experienced and well trained.

ConsVery poor communications and coordination between upper management personel and section foremen. To many young foremen lacking experience are not held accountable for making mistakes. Lack of teamwork between different shifts.

Advice to Senior ManagementCome into the work areas and see what is going on!! Stop trying to run the mine from behind a desk in an office outside.

    Tough Culture to operate

    Manager (Former Employee) Pittsburgh, PA

ProsGreat physical work environment and willing to spend capital to get the job done. Exciting industry to be involved with and good technical challenges. Very competitive compensation - above average for the geographic region.

ConsOutdated management styles and reluctant to embrace change and innovation. Very little team work among groups. Senior management does not often exhibit the leadership and technical abilities to move initiative forward. Many competing interests with little resolution from executive managment.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to embrace technology and the people who can help you implement it.
