difficult,i was new to trucking,if you get through your first year-things get pretty cool

    Driver (Former Employee) Riverside, CA

Prosnewest top uf the line volvo 780's,freightliner cascadias, etcpay every tuesday and thursday, lots of loads to haul ,zero downtime, the best 13 million dollar terminal at riverside, the people will give you space to unwind between runs--really i wish all trucking was this cool

Consthey act as though you are stupid and their slave--but when you figure out the scam--you have control over them--remember-if you don't haul the load--they don't make the money

Advice to Senior Managementtake away the power from driver managers to play stupid games

NEW RECRUIT IN CRST..NOW IN TEMP CONTROL DIVISION.....LOW EXPECTATIONS...V.HAPPY

Truck Driver (Current Employee) Cedar Rapids, IA

    ProsGood miles
    Good equipment
    Good Fleet managers
If your 100% dedicated to the job..you wont have a problem.....its like this..

If your not driving your not making money
if your not making money...the fleet managers arent either.
if your reliable and ontime...the fleet managers will assign you more jobs

Consschool they use for student training sucks....unless you really wanna be a trucker..your never gonna pass your test.Basically its a 4 week course cramped into 2 weeks.
I only got 4 hours driving time in school.....not much more on pre trip....and hardly anything on alley docking and backing....
Some trainers are terrible.....but if your not happy..well make sure u get a load thats going near one of the terminals...Fontana,CA,Oklahoma City,OK,Cedar Rapids,IA or Carlisle,PA....then request a new lead driver....Once you get a decent trainer..loisten to what he's trying to teach you...doesnt matter if u 'think u kno it all' or not...he s just trying to help you

Not a bad company if you know your team driver well.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsPlenty of miles, air freight loads, drop and hook. Weather alerts sent to qualcomm and mandatory slow downs/shutdowns help new drivers. If you run hard your dispatcher will notice and give you plenty of miles.

ConsKnowing your team driver well will help, if you just meet them at CRST, problems will likely develop within a couple of wks. I've seen that too many times and it will affect you negatively and your miles. Too many people are sitting due to not finding a team driver and team driving isn't easy. Night/weekend dispatch are often rude. I was an experienced driver as well as my boyfriend and we were off the road for 3 yrs so we had to go out with trainers. My trainer was not qualified for the job, couldn't back, or drive more than 5-6 hrs of her shift. That was disappointing.

Advice to Senior ManagementAll trainers should have to take a backing test to train, my trainer did not. Night/weekend dispatch should be held accountable for the way they treat drivers.

so far they been pretty good company to work for but pay could be alot better though!

Dry Van Long Haul (Current Employee)

Proswell they work with you pretty good on most things my dispatcher brian though does awsome job poor guy least trys to do his best he can. they do have good safety program especially when winter is around if weather gets to bad they dont mind you shuting down till weather is good for driving again.they do pretty good job about fixing trucks or traillers if driver send a request for them to be repaired .

Conswell there pay could be alot better than what it is. lease program is not best industry i talked to alot drivers that had lease with them 1 out 10 actually made good money . but i guess just depends on how ya mange ya money also.

Advice to Senior Managementwell i think they should change the training program around abit myself . i think it would be safer for driver to have least one yr at exp. of overroad driving in 6months exp. winter driving . cuz if would cut down accidents in make easier for trainer do his job as well . also now that crst is using elog on there trucks they need to do better job on training they guys on how to use this new system cuz they class they do have doesnt help drivers every at all .

so far dont have any major issues

    Lead Driver (Current Employee)

Prosgot real good equipment here and really like their weather updates they send you on the qc. and their policy on weather shutdown is a real plus here

Consthe way they do training is kinda odd compared to other companys i have drove for and wish they would bump speed on trucks up a little when you run the western states

Advice to Senior Managementdont really think you need to do any major changes company seems to be ok as it is

Mostly satisfied, better than others I have tried, MUCH!

Independent Contractor, Over the Road Driver (Current Employee)

ProsAs an independent contractor, you can in many instances choose where you run. How much you make is up to you. How much time off is up to you also. I have been here a year and a half now and have the best fleet manager I have had in over seven years.

ConsSome of my student drivers don't always get treated fairly after getting onto company trucks.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave the company side dispatchers spend at least 2 weeks a year out on a company truck with the drivers. I think it would improve communication and understanding of the problems out here, and help get them improved fast.

This is a company that treats people well, if you want a career this is a compant to consider!

    Truck Driver (Current Employee)

ProsThey are a solid company, if you want to move forward in the company you can, they treat people fairly, they are leaders in the industry, generally they do exactly what they say.

ConsThe only negative that I can offer is the fact that you are teamed with a person that may not share the same work ethic or values as you do.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to management is to be more aware of the people that have poor work ethic's, look at the log book to find out who is doing what. Some drivers pull twice the load as others so that the job gets done.
