Former Employee – worked at CSX full-time for less than a year
Pros – Health Benefits and salaries are excellent. You get to travel, you get the opportunity to learn the transportation by train business. You also have the opportunity to advance through the ranks.
Cons – Seasoned employees don't take time to help you, could be more helpful when you are in your training stages of the job.
Advice to Senior Management – During your training period as a freight conductor you should train the person for a six month period so that the trainee can get a solid grasp of the job. Some people have no idea of what the railroad transportation business are about.

Former Employee – worked at CSX full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Good pay for the what you do. Great benefits for you and your family. A good bunch of people to work WITH.
Cons – on call 24/7, you really cant make plans. hard to get time off. Management hiding in the bushes watching you, waiting for you to do something wrong so they can charge/fire you
Advice to Senior Management – better to point out what an employee is doing wrong & help him/her correct the behavior rather than let them keep screwing up so you can bring multiple charges agaist them. Get rid of the US vs. Them mentality
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at CSX
Pros – Pay, benefits, education opportunity, diversity
Cons – If you retired after 2003, the company executives decided to stick our insurance premiums on our backs.
They failed to tell us retiring boomers that once a $15,000 ceiling was crossed (per family) we'd carry the burden of our insurance cost. We were never told this during our retirement seminars. Even those who retired in the summer of 2011 were not told. Our insurance premiums increased by 94% for 2012. This had the effect of wiping out our management pensions. That's the appreciation we received for acheiving the position of management. Forty years as an employee and twenty as management. That's a big thanks. A multi billion dollar industry is just too cheap to help us for five years until we reach medicare age. CSX never adjusted the ceiling they set in 2003, how's that for planning?
Advice to Senior Management – Think about how youer decisions are going to effect the people who were your loyal employees and did all of your dirty work. What's $1100.00 a month for insurance for someone making six and seven figures plus stock options and huge bonuses?

Former Employee – worked at CSX
Pros – Benefits
nonlinear career path
multiple shifts
Duties are transparent for someone to be able to crosstrain
Cons – limited to railroad services in the logistics field
difficult to grow
recognition is difficult to earn in a large company
Advice to Senior Management – Management has actually improved dramatically over the past two years-they merged both regional groups, filtered customer service and dispatch duties, have come equipped with EDI services for easy tracking of shipments

Current Employee – been working at CSX
Pros – Good people on transportation side, retirement, benefits, etc.
Cons – Lousy management. Always trying to find something you are doing wrong instead of everything else you are doing right.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to the people that do the job day in and day out before making decisions based on your opinions.

Former Employee – worked at CSX
Pros – One of the largest companies in Jax and a leader in the railroad transportation industry. Good benefits such as railroad retirement
Cons – Male dominanted company with virtually no women in senior leadership roles. Techinally sound but in need of growth in that area
Advice to Senior Management – Improve the systems that the company uses and promote a more equal balance of men to women ratio for management positions.

Current Employee – been working at CSX
Pros – it's a strong american company that will be there forever.
Cons – my job as a locomotive engineer takes me away from home 300 days of the year . quality of life is a major issue if you work in operations.
Advice to Senior Management – Remember csx is a railroad , top priority should be moving trains and customer service, shareholders shouldn't be prioritized higher than the customer .

Current Employee – been working at CSX
Pros – Compensation and Benefits Package is good. There is opportunity to grow and develop, however the time and effort put into the company to get to that point may be extreme.
Cons – There is not near enough family time and the workplace is full of negativity. It is a good place to make money, however the sacrifices that must be given up in order to make that money may not be worth it to all.
Advice to Senior Management – There are evident advances to making the workplace a more family friendly and positive one, but there is a lot that needs to be done in the field to make this so. I understand that it is a business and that there is a lot that needs to be done in order to get to that point, but there is more to life than making money.
