    Telecommunications and elcectronics field technician

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsExcellent benefits and retirement for anyone who sticks it out for 30 years. Railroads promote from within at least to the middle level management positions. The work is never boring and requires a broad knowledge of data and telecommunications protocols. Field technicians cover large geographical territories and work with very little supervision.

ConsIn recent years using gps tracking there has been a tendency to micro manage the field forces.

Advice to Senior ManagementField technicians are required by the logistics of their positions to be independent and to work without close supervision. Given proper encouragement and access to training and materials necessary for their work they tend to perform best when managed least.

    Intern (Former Employee) Jacksonville, FL

ProsThe people are friendly and helpful. I spent much of my time learning from the more experienced employees, some of which with 40+ years there. Honestly, most of the employees are about to retire so they are more than willing to transfer their knowledge to you. Furthermore, pay was great. I made pretty good money fresh out of high school. The college interns made double what I made. Awesome.

ConsAt times there is a lot of down time and at others they are bombarding you with information. All in all, you were left alone which can be awkward for a new employee.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more young people willing to replace the retirees.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
