    Pros

Good benefits, although they dwindle yearly

    Cons

If you say something bad about the company they will blacklist you and build a case against you, even if it takes years, then fire you. They will also make it impossible to get work in the same field.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pick a process and stick with it.

    Pros

Non-metro environment, meaning everyone leaves by 5:30. Free cable. Discounted cafeteria

    Cons

So much backstabbing to save jobs. Watched myself and others get thrown under the proverbial bus. Was happy to be gone and so much better off as a result.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not the same once the big guys left. Except for Dolan, who, unfortunate won't be leaving any time soon. Nice ego purchases of Newsday and that MSO in Montana. Dumb.

    Pros

If you know someone and you can get it, that would be the pro.

    Cons

If you are accepted with the 'in' crowd, you are ok because you will be totally protected by management. The favoritism that goes on makes managers not treat others so fairly. People that deserve advancement are passed over for those 'favorites'.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat others as you would want to be treated yourself. Some day, you might not be a 'favorite' anymore. Things change, times change - but good employees should be appreciated not discarded.

I have been working at Cablevision Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Medical benefits are decent, free internet, cable, and phone. Fair pay. Will work with you if you have a personal situation...up to a point. Will compensate for exceptional work. No assigned seats so you can sit wherever and with whomever you like, good co-workers aside from management and certain supervisors.

    Cons

Values are questionable. Clear instances of favoritism/nepotism. Love to micromanage! Sometimes it feels like even your farts are managed. Not much room for growth. Dubious sales tactics. Measures for performance evaluation are not set up in employee's favor. Hours for new employees are TOUGH. 30 minute lunch break will make you feel like a child. *NO pay differential for multilingual reps.

WARNING: This job is NOT for everyone. You will be essentially chained to your seat listening to 80% complaints all day so you need to be able to handle stress. It doesn't help that the environment is not supportive and will make you question business ethics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less rigidity when dealing with employees with certain life situations. Less micromanaging please! Less greedy. Stop losing paperwork and harassing employees who have medical situations for MORE paperwork!!

    Pros

Great benefit package provided from day 1. Free cable, phone and Internet services are a big plus.

    Cons

They talk a good game about treating people well and with respect. What is said and what is done are completely different things. The environment in HR is so political that it is impossible to know where you stand from day to day. The culture is eat or be eaten. If you are not a former co-worker or relative of those in charge, you don't have a chance.

Senior management is running scared because business levels are lower and lower. The goal seems to be to control the bleeding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to improve the culture by shuffling the employee deck over and overr and over again. The problem lies with the leadership (or lack thereof) particularly in HR.

I worked at Cablevision Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great co workers (you all are usually on the same page), good pay and good benefits no srguing that.

    Cons

Supervosors either love you or want to fire you if you don't get along with them or management, regardless of how good you are. Micro management at its best!! Late one minute and it goes into their Harry Pottor book of secrets. Late again even if it's weeks later and you're summoned to a sit down. You're given time for the year, barely any at that. 40 sick hours and 30 personal. If you run out and you take any more you risk being fired. Go on FMLA you risk being fired. You're going to be a little late one day and maybe another in a week or so and you use your time (as they tell you to) don't be surprised if you're fired. Do something, say something or end up on the wrong end of the favoritism structure? Fired. The company runs like a robot. Everything recorded down to the second and there's no sense of a personalized work environment. I guess it's s curse and a blessing at the same time. Also if you like rule changes every week this Job is for you!!! Apply now! The money is in sales but the nonsense doesn't go away there either. Also be prepared for issues the company knows they have with their product, that they know they never fix, and just make tickets and tell their customers to reset their boxes and modems to feel better. A day in the life of cable right here in a nut shell.

I have been working at Cablevision Systems

    Pros

Good pay. Good benefits. You work with many very hard working and talented employees.

    Cons

Stressful place to work. Executive Managment pushes the employees to the max. While this results in a lot of good work it also can result in burnout and leave/ in which case you will probably get laid off even if you had a really good run before you ran into getting overwhelmed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider people's lives. Encourage people to take lunch and take vacation time and not just as lip service. The company should actively avoid and care about employee burnout - and try to be proactive in improving the employee experience. Yes - the pay is good, but that doesn't give license to expect employees to endure constant overload and a sustained comitenenr that has little forgiveness for an employee who might be tempararily having a difficult time / likely as a result to work at stress. Either way / those still with the company consider themselves lucky to be employed - but very powerless against a constant trend that expects more and more.

I worked at Cablevision Systems full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

If you can withstand the tremendous pressure they put on you, you can make a good amount of money to be made. great benefits and perks. Free cable, internet and phone, including all premium channels is great. They reward top performers.

    Cons

Very Micro-Managed. Everything you do is watched like big brother over your shoulders, with constant pressure to do better. I have seen people go to the hospital for the amount of pressure they put on you in sales position. but if you can withstand the pressure and move up to management position, you can have a great career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Become more employee friendly. stop the micro-management and the tremendous amount of pressure you put on people. A friendly work environment will produce much better results and employees who last longer and not burnout in 6 months.
