    Need Justice

Direct Sales Representative (Former Employee) Newark, NJ

ProsCablevision/Optimum direct sales representative is a great position if you are self motivated and love money. There is an opportunity to make well above six figures, as i did in my first full year. In reality i started in a partial year in may and i still managed to make 72,000 that year. Cablevision has some perks like the presidents club dinner at the end of the year which is pretty easily attainable. Also Presidents Club Trip to an island for the top 2 performers in each office

Consterminated for violated a rule that did not exist. the company created a rule/policy only to charge whole office of violating the rule before it even existed. nightmare to say the least. Company did not do their due diligence in their investigation of our so called "sales by misconduct." Human Resources and Management could not state a policy that we violated. I still call Human Resources from time to time to ask which specific policy was violated and still haven't received an answer

    Backstabbing

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Bethpage, NY

ProsFree cable, phone, Internet. Decent people, mostly. Suburban atmosphere

ConsBackstabbing superiors who did not flinch to throw others under the bus to save their own job. So glad I'm gone, but was a brutal experience. Went from two years of "exceeds expectation" in job reviews to whacked so my boss could save his job.

    Advice to Senior ManagementUgh.

Management was fair, but supervisors were miserable people.

Field Service Technician (Former Employee) Hicksville, NY

ProsFree cable and decent benefits. 4 month training program for new field techs. Great gear and uniforms. Free employee gym and movie theater. Great work schedule 4 10 hour days and 3 days off.

ConsDifficult supervisors. Terrible pay, but it has gibe up since '06-'07. Rough customers at times. Long days and rough of knees and joints. Correcting customer service mistakes. Its sad it took Brooklyn to get a union in there and Dolan wanted it out. He promised techs more money and better equipment if they ditched the union. He fired all the managers. It took that shake up to make rich boy Dolan pay more to his techs that make him rich. High job burnout. Poor personal days only 3 and only 5 sick days for the WHOLE year.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen more to your techs. They are your eyes and ears. Even out the workloads better. Give more paid personal days and sick days for better work/life balance.

    Very negative experience.

Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) Shelton, CT

ProsFree cable, etc. That's the only one I can think of.

ConsMany. Leads that don't care, drunk customers, monitored calls, inadequate training just to name a few. There are also average call time goals that are unrealistic and an extremely high turnover; that's why they are constantly hiring. They like to fire people before the probationary period so they don't have to pay the higher wages and benefits.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet people to train the new reps that actually care whether they actually learn.

    Wasn't the Best

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsBeneftits are good and you will learn alot

ConsOverworked and under paid. If you are coming into this company your best bet is to ask for what you really want from early. Raises are about 50-60 cent every year.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees and try to fight for your staff. Brooklyn employees are not bad employees they just want to br treated fairly which isn't unreasonable.

    Never Sign Without Reading...

Advanced Service Technician (Former Employee) Oakland, NJ

ProsForemost the benefit package, for me 77k base compensation was good, in addition, I received an annual bonus, medical, dental, vision benefits, company match 401K, company paid cash balance pension and cable tv, internet, phone services were free...

ConsWorking for Cablevision meant dealing with micro managing, unrealistic productivity expectations, union busters, hold the carrot before the donkey tactics, extreme nepotism, racist/sexist, homophobic mentalities. As such, being an at will worker with fear of reprisal, from my perception prevented a majority of field personnel from standing up and speaking out on a number of levels, so they went/go along with status quo...

    "The elephant in the room"

After 23.5 years of working in the Oakland, NJ system, there's very little support, if none at all, when your ideas and you differ, and you don’t ascribe to Cablevision ideas/methods of managing... from my perspective, I worked hard and was recognized many times, prior to their acquisition. I abided to policies in place; I question(ed) authority, and in their attempt to define me, I was labeled hard to manage…as a queer feminist woman of color who asserts, to them, you’re argumentative, have an attitude, a chip on the shoulder and you’re intimidating. If you're not of the dominate culture and male, you're other(ed), and then marginalized. Paper trials of lies were written during a long term attempt to silence and inevitably terminate me. I am a woman of color who faced racism/sexism/homophobia during the course of work, I was told by Cablevision management with regard to racism," you should be able to deal with that by now"... excuse me, from my perception, racism or any other ISM is not something I or anyone should be subjected to...when a person expresses their experience, it is the duty of a company to investigate the matter; not tell an employee, in addition, to the aforementioned, "we have other people working for us that aren't having that problem", do you really know that? I worked in three locations over the years. I asked the predominately African American/Latino male field service personnel in the Lodi, NJ office if they experienced racism during the course of their work and they did; they mostly chose to work in the predominately Black and Latino demographic for that reason. Moreover, my experience as a woman of color working in a non-traditional capacity, and my interrelation with men in the same position cannot be equated with the male experience in a male dominated position. So, contrary to a AOM's belief, I had a good work rapport with the majority of male co-workers.

Advice to Senior ManagementSo, in concluding, I experienced all forms of ISM’s countless times during the course of my work over the years. I am not angry with the business decision to dismiss my employ, or for the blame placed on me, which ultimately caused the loss of a job. I’ve gained from our separation, there is no place for me within a large organization filled with greed, one that turns a blind eye at issues or that lacks the ability to create an atmosphere conducive to productivity and good morale for all its employees, and not just an atmosphere for the satisfaction of million dollar shareholders only. I wish their values were more than just words on paper...

For me, “the ends don't justify the means." I wish I could say the same about Cablevision.

Autocratic management style controlled by a small group of family members or selected few.

Senior (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsOwns underdeveloped media assets in country's largest media market.

ConsAutocratic work culture discourages innovative thinking. Workers accept mercurial management style by doing what they are told to do.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo a climate survey only if you are willing to listen. Empower managers to build/defend/execute growth strategies. Look closely at leadership skills and track records of senior management.

    Cablevision - Bartow Call Center

Advanced Service Representative (Former Employee) Bronx, NY

ProsThey have good paid training and of course the Free Cable/Phone & Internet you get once your a Full time employee is a BIG plus. Good Health Plan and other Benefits.

ConsThe Management team at Bartow has no clue on what they are doing. Almost every manager comes from another company with little or no knowledge of Cablevision's products or services.
Management's idea of Management is making subtle threats to their employees in regards to Quality of Service, and extended time off you take (regardless if you have the time or not).

Since the Call Center is a 24/7 operation, your shift can change every six to twleve months, so you will find yourself juggling your lifestyle at least twice a year so if you have a family (WIfe and Kids) you'll have to get use to making that adjustment often.

And since the Bartow Call Center is located in Co-Op City, if you don't drive any shift after Midnight leaves with no way to get home unless you drive or can afford to take a cab to the Pelham Bay Train Station (which cost about $8 one way). You get a half hour for lunch and two 15 minutes breaks.

Advancement, at least in the time I was there from 2007 to 2014, is not based on your performance but on who you know at Bartow.

Advice to Senior ManagementJames Dolan needs to pay more attention to this portion of his Empire rather than worrying about his Knicks.
