    Pros

Great benefits, 401K, free cable, internet, and phone. Good salaries.

    Cons

Poor management. While exempt employees work endless hours to bring projects on-time, management does not appreciate it. Worse, management shows favoritism. And when employees have given 24 years of loyal and satisfactory service, they are laid off without a second thought. I loved the company, and my work, but the fact that many long-term colleagues and I were laid as we got older has left a very bitter taste. The company's values have changed for the worse, and I could no longer recommend it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look more closely at middle management, and perhaps have an audit of employees' work.

    Pros

    The customers and free cable.

    Cons

Jim Dolan is a idiot born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He has no skills or vision and makes terrible decisions( see the Knicks, also) He is such a tyrant that he must surround himself with "yes" people. People would rather make the wrong decision for the business if they believe that is what Jim wants.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ride the horse till it dies, or convince Jim to sell

    Pros

Free cable (if you live in Cablevision area) Great health benefits, gym onsite, onsite cafeteria was not bad. Periodic "shift bids" made it possible to work more desireable shifts. If you stick around long enough, you could actually end up on the shift that you want.

    Cons

I have worked in other call centers, and this one was absolutely the most restrictive work environment I've had the displeasure to be in. I took this phone job (retention is really just sales) hoping to get a foot in the door and eventually be able to get a position in another department. The stats in this call center are so tight, you have to get to work 10 minutes early just to sign onto all your necessary screens/systems to be ready to clock in at the start of your shift. This is illegal and I'm surprised no one has gotten around to reporting Cablevision to the DOL. I read a previous comment by a 10+ year former employee that got fired for talking to union reps. I've seen that happen in other call centers at other companies. They will shut down a location before they allow a union to come in. I would not recommend wasting your time or jeopardizing your job for a union- but I am surprised that no one fights for that 10-15 minutes a day before the shift spent signing on that is unpaid. Micro managment is putting it lightly. They get mad if you leave your desk to use the bathroom. I'm not kidding- they want you to wait for your break or lunch. I've worked at other call centers that gave you 20 minutes of idle time. There was never any idle time built into the stats in this call center. Very sweatshop-like. I knew of many employees in other departments (not phone rep jobs) that were very happy with their jobs. That was what I aspired to, unfortunately, I didn't have what it took to suck it up and sweat it out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Call center staff does not have to be treated like sweat shop workers. Getting reprimanded for leaving your desk (to use the restroom) is dehumanizing and uncalled for. And I'm surprised corporate attorneys have not advised you to quit making the employees sign onto the system on their own time. If employees band together and file for back pay - and win, even former employees will be entitled to back pay.

    Pros

I really don't have anything to say, I was there as a temp.

    Cons

I couldn't understand the hold time for inbound calls. People were holding almost an hour. Just not enough people working.

  7.

Good place to work if your looking to make decent money. I wouldn't plan on staying long though. Get in and get out.

    Pros

The money is good. Great overtime most of the year. Full benefits, tuition reimbursement (up to $5,000), Christmas bonuses. Also if they choose you to work on a holiday you get paid triple what you'd normally make for that day.

    Cons

The job is easy but some of the customers are outright mean and rude. The company doesn't back you either which makes it a little difficult to deal with these kinds of people. The companies computer systems makes it even more difficult. They're slow and outdated. They need to do a better job selecting supervisors. A lot of them don't know how to begin to help there reps without consulting another supervisor. Also, communication between all the departments needs to get better. Ex: A certain policy or rule is enforced in customer service but not in the sales department, which makes it harder on us when a customer says "Oh well the sales person I spoke to before you didn't tell me that." Also policies change daily at this job. 1 day you can get fired for something, the next day they take it away all together like it doesn't even matter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to get the input of a rep when you decide something needs to be changed. We are the ones on the front line experiencing the problems customer are having and if customer satisfaction is the goal, who better to give you the information you need to meet this goal? Also if your going to hire a supervisor promote from within. There's so much information that a supervisor needs to know and it takes time to retain these things. If a supervisors job is to support their reps they need to have the knowledge it takes. Promote from within.
