I worked at Canada Revenue Agency as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great benefits and the opportunity to use "banked" hours to take every other Friday off which is great during the summer time. Very good work life balance which can be very suitable to parents (opportunity to work early and get off early).

    Cons

Lack of drive in the office as in common in the public sector. The office closes at 5 PM and you HAVE to leave. Work can be mundane and there is too much focus on the quantity vs. the quality of work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more attractive compensation to have industry leaders in important roles. Increase the amount of training.

I have been working at Canada Revenue Agency as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Everyone is respectful to one an other and honest. We are all encouraged to resolves inter-staff confrontation as adults, which really contributes well to the friendly environment. Great training. Once you leave work, you leave work! Benefits are OK too.
I definitively recommend this to my hard working friends!

    Cons

It can get repetitive, as we are asked the same questions multiple times during the week. But it's a call center, so there isn't much flexibility on your in/out/breaks time.
It's a perpetual contract job. You are never sure if/when you will get to sign your next contract.

    Pros

    Cons

I worked at Canada Revenue Agency as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Amazing pay. I was a student and earned $17.66/hr. Team leader was very kind to me. Very relaxed and stress-free environment.

    Cons

Systems very out of date - was still using 2003 MS office. My work was still sorted then filed away physically when it could easily be done electronically (was very time consuming, exhausting, and inefficient).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Please update the systems.

I have been working at Canada Revenue Agency as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

friendly colleagues always willing to help, lot's of autonomy from supervisor, able to give suggestions and opinions about process however, they are taking longer than necessary to improve.

    Cons

too much bureaucracy and work has to go through several supervisors to be approved, do not like the cubicle type of working environment, outdated technology and have to direct to hotline when a problem occurs

I worked at Canada Revenue Agency full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

great for those with families or single parents looking for work/life balance. Lots of time off priveliges and income averaging

    Cons

Micro-management is huge. Once you are in a position, you are pegged down to it. Hard to move around and up in the gov't.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the micro-management. People are no longer in elementary school. Give staff the opportunity to enjoy their work environment as they need to come there everyday for years to come.
