I worked at Canadian National Railway

    Pros

Great pay and excellent benefits. You also have the ability to move up and a fast pace. You also have the option to transfer to a different job if you are unhappy. The coworkers and supervisors are very helpful and will teach you all the skills you will need to be successful at this job.

    Cons

About as much over time as you can handle, and the fact that you are on call 24 seven. Also the company has a zero tolerance policy for alcohol even the amount in mouth wash. Another down side to the job is that you will have to travel all around the us until you get enough years in.

I have been working at Canadian National Railway full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

apprentice program was real good, working there you met so many people within CN and outside railways where you could gain knowledge....the company always listened to any complaints I had and resolved them,....

    Cons

so many negative people...what I found the negative people always did as little as possible and were great union supporters.....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

when somebody is promoted give them the skills they need for there job...and treat people under you the same way you liker to be treated

I have been working at Canadian National Railway

    Pros

    1) Great Pay
    2) overall fairly easy work
    3) Great people
    4) Great opportunity for advancement
=> Either within unionized positions or within management
    5) Great leader, with a great focus, great corporate outlook
    6) Great team, lots of knowledge, lots of help when needed
    7) SAFETY....ONLY COMPANY I HAVE EVER WORKED FOR WHERE THEY PREACH SAFETY AND BACK IT UP
    8) Those who continually mess up and put others in danger are held accountable

    Cons

on call 24 / 7, long days (up to 18 hrs on a train)

bunch of 50+ people who hired on in high school, never worked a hard job in their life and all they do is cry about the work. Place would be much better if 25% of the work force retired tomorrow and wouldn't have to deal with all the cry babies. I can't believe there are people with a grade 10 education who make 120 thousand dollars a year who cry that they don't make enough or that they have to wake up at 2 am to make that kind of cash.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep in line with the CEO's vision, his customer centric approach is begining to take shape and the proof is in the pudding. The customers are getting better service, we are servicing them more efficiently, and starting to change the culture to that of a positive outlook.

I have been working at Canadian National Railway

    Pros

The pay is good, the benefits are top tier, the people you work with are great, and get paid to work out every day!

    Cons

If you have allergies or are sensitive to strong smells (diesel, grease, burning thermite, etc.) might not be the best, but really no downsides.
