I worked at Canadian National Railway full-time

    Pros

High compensation and great benefits. Fantastic training and a great place to get experience in the corporate work force. Hunter Camp was a blast.

    Cons

Sometimes have to deal with very long hours. Must be prepared to sacrifice family time if their is an issue like a derailment.

    Advice to Management

Give the trainmasters more say so in how the yards are operated and allow for more flexibility when it comes to dealing with the traincrews

    Pros

Great pay and excellent benefits. You also have the ability to move up and a fast pace. You also have the option to transfer to a different job if you are unhappy. The coworkers and supervisors are very helpful and will teach you all the skills you will need to be successful at this job.

    Cons

About as much over time as you can handle, and the fact that you are on call 24 seven. Also the company has a zero tolerance policy for alcohol even the amount in mouth wash. Another down side to the job is that you will have to travel all around the us until you get enough years in.

    Advice to Management

    None

I have been working at Canadian National Railway full-time

    Pros

Good pay, outdoors, good union..ish. Some people are willing to help the new guys and won't step on you to much.

    Cons

Long hours, away from home, good if you're single or looking for a strained relationship, Can't be picky on who you work with.

    Advice to Management

They don't know what a plan is to save their lives they run the rails like a bunch of supreme commanders some need to slow it down and listen to those who have been there longer.
