I worked at Canadian Natural full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great place to start a career and learn about the oil and gas industry.
Friendly workplace, some opportunities for development. If you have an excellent work ethic, you can work quite independently.

    Cons

Poor place to advance as a woman.
Compensation is below average for many positions, not based on performance.
"Live to work" not "work to live"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to spend time and effort developing manager skills. Could lead to better morale and creativity and continuing improvement initiatives.

I have been working at Canadian Natural full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of personal freedom, goals and expectations are clearly defined. Opportunities to learn are many. Educational development is encouraged.

    Cons

Wages and benefits are low to medium compared to peers. Shift flexibility is poor compared to peers. Very large company with traditional hierarchy which is frustrating. Much top down decision making.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shake up the old boys network. Remove dead wood. Change up ways of doing things. More open to newer ideas regarding shifts and field procedures. Use technology more effectively at field level.

I have been working at Canadian Natural full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Canadian Natural is a good place to start your carreer. It is still developing which will give you lots of opportunities to improve. It has generous vacations time and it provides a secured job.

    Cons

There is no standard practice accross the company. One division may execute the project with totally different approach than others. But this is expected as the company is still growing.

I worked at Canadian Natural full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Stock options on hiring are good. Salaries and benefits are reasonable. Staff are kept busy, and the more you're willing to do, the more you'll be given.

    Cons

Many of the roles are narrow and deep. Therefore staff get bored and tend to change jobs every few years. It is a command and control company, with the standard share of bullies in management. It is a big company trying to operate like a small one - sometimes it works and frequently causes unnecessary problems.
