I worked at Canon full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    * End of the year bonus
    * Employee sale twice a year
    * 401K matching

    Cons

    * Walking morgue. A lot of the employees have been there more than 20 years and have no more life in them.
    * Too many chiefs. No room for advancement. Especially if you are not a Japanese male.
    * Red tape city. Can't get things done fast and efficiently. It is amazing that Canon is still a leader in anything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retire and let young thought-leaders take your place.

    Pros

Good benefits and a way to get a start toward working in an office environment.
Company has tuition reimbursement so a bit of advice get your education and afterward leave for better pastures.

    Cons

Low pay and you have to apply multiple times (beg) to get a promotion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better pay and acknowledge that your kiss-ups are always not the best people for the promotional advances.

I have been working at Canon

    Pros

Canon is a large company that is able to provide great support systems that other small competitors do not have available to them. Canon Business Solutions offers great health benefits packages. For people at the beginning of their careers, Canon offers excellent training programs.

    Cons

Canon is too slow to react to market changes in order to stay competitive. The decision making and processes are too inflexible to stay up to date with the changing sales environment. It seems like upper management is out of touch with the real situation in the market place. In addition, the employee moral is extremely low. This could be a result of the compensation packages being lower than industry averages.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More decision making power needs to be given on a local level. Canon loses many opportunities due to slow decision making.

I have been working at Canon full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

good cost performance. nice bonus compared with other underperforming electronic company
managers are generally nice, and not pushy
    not laying off

    Cons

shabby bonus these years, for almost half a decade
slow and bureaucratic. everything needs authorization
enforced work life balance only to cut pay by reducing overtime, with the same workload
no work life balance, as you still have to work overtime, but no pay
    no rent subsidy
claims to value people by merit rather than years worked, not the case at all.
cost cut on everything, reducing company resorts, or make it so expensive that nobody wants to use. and you have to take a poll in order to use it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    dump work life balance
no more hypocritical crap, or you lose loyalty of all your workers
the business is bad, camera done for. what will you do?

I worked at Canon full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Good training programme for people with no or minimal sales experience.
    - Wonderful colleagues who are energetic and supportive.
    - High possibility of internal transfers to explore and fulfil one's potential.

    Cons

    - Revised remuneration package is very disappointing.
    - Micromanagement culture
    - A lot of red tapes, rigid environment resulting in a lot of frustrations.
    - Minimal work life balance as staffs are expected to stay late as an indicator of being sincere for the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Please kindly reconsider your remuneration package and style of management. 2-way communication seems to be non-existent between supervisor and subordinates.

    I worked at Canon

    Pros

Develop excellent products - proud to represent quality. An excellent name to have on a resume, as it's large and has a strong reputation, brand recognition. The environmental focus is admirable.

    Cons

Poor management, lack of versatility and ability to change with current trends. Not employee focused. Salaries are below what competition offers. Treatment toward employees is less then satisfactory and moral is poor as a result.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take leadership courses. Focus on the employee loyalty effect, as it transfers to customer loyalty. Learn how to be leaders in delivering the message of quality through innovative means (not just relying on an established reputation as leaders in technology) and demonstrate an ability to change with the times - a good example is Rogers communication. Pay according to standards. People want to be associated with a company that is forward focused.

I have been working at Canon

    Pros

Autonomy at the job and the ability to make decisions are the best reasons to work at Canon. It's a relatively flat structure which gives employees access to senior managers. You're also expected to have a good grasp of all the different functions within the business as there just aren't enough people to work the jobs. As a result, you kind of fill in the holes regardless of what your position is at the company.

    Cons

It's a pressure cooker environment - especially as a Japanese company. The roles aren't necessarily defined enough that you get a lot of extra work put onto you. They expect a lot without paying enough or providing enough support or benefits. They don't have enough employees and they're not open to change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It feels like senior management just doesn't get it sometimes. They're very removed from the employees and they get all of their suggestions and "strategic" thinking out of a textbook.
