I have been working at Canon full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Job security , 401k, great benefits. forklift certification. 3 breaks a day two fifteen minute and one of the clock half hour.

    Cons

Low pay, small or no raises, no room to move up. low morale. the 1030-7pm shift makes it nearly impossible to find a school schedule to try and further your education.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Positive recognition of work above and beyond will create a good morale.

I have been working at Canon full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Diverse product line. Better than average hardware products. Great Brand Recognition. Adequate specialist support. Earnings in high 5 figures not impossible, just improbable in Boston.

    Cons

Disjointed Customer Care support team. Limited company focus on the customer needs and how best to solve their problems easily and quickly. Extremely process oriented and very inflexible. Example: Financial department has no idea how to assist a Representative prepare an order in the fixed Order Management program called (SOM) sales order maker. If you want to combine service for multiple machines (blanket agreement) and ensure you're ordering it correctly, No One person can answer your questions. It takes too long to figure out the process. While doing this in the office, you're not Prospecting or Telemarketing, or attending some other Training for nefarious products that very few people ever sell, but you're required to "pitch" it. Face it, printed documents are going away and working for a printer manufacture isn't the future anymore. Start your career with a software developing company if you want a future in the business communications market. Face to face selling is becoming a thing of the past in this industry and they haven't yet mastered a way to promote the hardware via software selling. But, eventually, they won't need you here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your Branch Administrators need better training and compensation (to keep turnover down). They pull together your "silo" of operations where everyone is only concerned about their daily responsibility, not the customer needs. If the VP's and Presidents would work the front lines on a regular basis and hear current and new customer complaints daily, they would understand how difficult it is to work for their company. Unfortunately, they don't care. Remember, this is a sales organization. If you're not selling something you're not doing your job, regardless if you have to dump a current customer and find a new one.

I have been working at Canon full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a very stable 9-5 job, if you're lucky then it's a 35hr work week. People are nice and welcoming. Great resources available and good opportunity for continuous education. Also the new Melville building is bright and clean (the walking paths are great when the weather is good.)

    Cons

Teams can be extremely siloed, so are the different levels of employees and management. This lack of communication often results in project issues (that could have been easily prevented with open communication and sharing of information). Any significant change happens very slowly (lots of red tape). Not much movement and growth in terms of promotion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More transparency with all employees.

I have been working at Canon full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Best products in the industry with great Technical Support, locally, online and over the phone. Earnings are tough in this highly competitive market, but with the right attitude, you could be $80+ within a few years.

    Cons

Company structure is still developing since they lost IKON as a distribution channel. This is one of the most difficult companies I have ever worked in. I'm losing accounts due to poor business process that isn't focusing on the customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop pushing the "process" agenda and start implementing customer needs changes now! Become more flexible with every stage of the sales process: SOM doesn't work for all deals. Go back to paper orders and proposals.

you learn a lot because job descriptions are not fully defined. It's a great place to learn work discipline as management has high expectations

    Cons
