Accelerated learning without much support

Senior Consultant (Current Employee)
Houston, TX

I have been working at Capgemini full-time for more than a year

ProsMoney is okay.
Got the chance to work in India and meet some of my project counterparts and increase my understanding of the culture.

ConsPromotions at the level level are given without merit. 2 years is the time frame so lone as you done mess up, you don't have to be great though.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow reorg and industry focus apply to consultants also

Entrepreneurial culture with Freedom but overly restrictive internal tools and processes

Senior Manager (Current Employee)
Jersey City, NJ

I have been working at Capgemini full-time for more than 10 years

ProsEntrepreneurial culture with freedom to achieve what you want. Great People despite the fact that the French Management has limited interaction or knowledge of the US market, resources and trends

ConsOverly complicated French driven processes designed by people who sit in an office and never get out to client sites where the work really happens
Antiquated tools and technologies (Laptops, Conference Bridges, web based tools etc)

Advice to Senior ManagementBesides comp and work life balance the only thing your people need are good tools to do their job
Please modernize the software, systems, bridges and computers they use on a daily basis. Its not enough to talk about CLOUD, Information Management and other emerging technologies without embracing them. Move to new technologies and cut reliance on ineffective IT support personnel. This will make your people happy and you will save $$$.

Good guys , average skill set

Manager (Former Employee)
Chicago, IL

I worked at Capgemini full-time for more than 3 years

Proslike any consulting company this review is specific to the practise (SAP in my case) you are part of.
General work life balance is good, people get promoted although sometimes based on seniority, some exceptionally good guys are always there and if you can get hands on people from other countries like European ones, you can get exposed to some great work.

ConsCross country integration is poor
Training is average, people are not top tier

Experience varies by project

Consultant (Current Employee)

I have been working at Capgemini full-time

ProsI've had some amazing managers who have taken me under their wings to mentor and coach me. I've had my certifications paid for, I'm being compensated pretty well, and have been able to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

ConsI've also had a nightmare-situation of a project that has really changed my view of this company. There was no work-life balance, no organization within the project, and no management. Despite our attempts to report this to senior executives several times, none of these issues were ever addressed. I joined this company because they told us they cared about how they treat their people, but the amount of politics I've experienced shows me otherwise. Most companies have feedback bottom-up and top-down so that each person is rated during round-table discussions. However, Capgemini only does top-down ratings (something I find extremely unfair).

Again, this really varies by project. I've been on amazing projects with extremely competent managers. I've also known many people who have never experienced bad projects. So please take this with a grain of salt.

Advice to Senior ManagementTurnover is extremely high within the company because people feel like they don't have a say. Many people I know left because they were hired into this company under a specific service line they didn't choose, and found it impossible to switch service lines. In addition, to my point about bottom-up ratings, I feel that this is extremely important as many times, lower-level consultants don't feel as if they're being treated fairly by upper management.
