I have been working at Capita

    Pros

Good opportunities for progression, large IT provider with a very valuable contract in my area. Shorter is sometimes better don't you know?

    Cons

Difficulties were faced with a major migration project. Again, sometimes shorter can be better, did you not know that?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to be open minded. I don't envy you though.

I have been working at Capita

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to get broad experience in the field, if you've got some talent this can be well recognised.

    Cons

Some extremely poor managers ruining the experience for those with ability. Not a great company for cutting out dead wood, consequently you'll run into a lot.

There's a real culture of cronyism.

A lot of managers are from a call centre background, and don't really know how to manage anything else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognise internal talent, and also recognise those who just need to go. Aspire to actually running a decent outfit. Take a bit of pride in what you do.

I worked at Capita as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Good contract rates, trusted to get on with it. Fine for a temporary consultant.

    Cons

Terrible resources - ancient PCs, creaking infrastructure and can be difficult to get logons for test servers etc. Must be difficult or more likely impossible for permanent staff to stay motivated. Saves money in the short term, bad for business in the long term. Could be fixed by now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have pity, give them the tools they need.

I have been working at Capita full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The structure allows for each business unit to function with little interference so it usually feels as though you are working for a small to medium sized company.

    Cons

Profits go to "feed the beast" and investment in the development of successful business units is not forthcoming.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If an area is profitable something is going right, reinvest in its development as well as using the profits to support areas that are struggling.
