I have been working at Capital One Auto Finance full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Its easy to get hired on at the COAF call center near Tulsa Oklahoma and the insurance is good.

    Cons

The COAF management cant figure out how to manage service levels in the customer care call center.
And there is a strange culture of shaming that they think drives performance. Every employees individual statistics are posted on boards around the Tulsa call center. The poor performers are humiliated and shamed because their metrics are highlighted in red. The young generally uneducated managers that COAF hires think this practice drives better performance but all it does is demoralize employees. Even the best employees have bad months and their hard work is rewarded with shaming. It is very sad that such a large organization has such a basic lack of understanding of how to motivate and drive better performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop the shaming. quit highlighting poor performance in red and instead use modern methods of driving better performance.

I have been working at Capital One Auto Finance full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Good benefits
-Friendly people who are fun to work with
-Lots of snacks to make us fat

    Cons

    -Low pay
    -Horrible management of service levels
    -Very low yearly raises
-A ridiculous bonus system that only allows for a very few to profit

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shaming was a management technique that went out in the 1960's. Quit putting everyone's bad stats on the boards highlighted in red. This is an archaic style of management called shaming. The pilgrims used it, and now COAF management uses it. It doesn't motivate people to change. It only shows us the ineptitude of our management.

    Pros

The benefits are really good for this level of a position.

    Cons

Management will lie to get you to perform and then will make all kinds of excuses to not follow thru on their promises.

    Pros

Good benefits, 401k, average healthcare benefits

    Cons

Be ready to work without being compensated! Company profits are great, but not shared with those that produce it. Only good friends get raises, bonuses and promotions---not those that perform. I do not know who votes this company as one of the best places to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow some, and take care of the workforce! Realize that pay has decreased for the last few years, yet profits are outta this world----pay your employees--not just your cronies.

Great place if that's all you want to do

I worked at Capital One Auto Finance

    Pros

Great people, decent management, fun activities and they like to feed you

    Cons

Not a good place for a single parent as you will have to work a weekend and most likely start in nights which means no time for children. Also no time for school unless you take online classes. Lots of favoritism as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You say your family oriented and you want to help people improve themselves inside the company and outside the company then prove it. Work with them on school schedules and around family so they will continue to do a wonderful job. Managers who hang out with their some people after work tend to favorite those over other employees as well and that needs to stop.

    Pros

The pay and benefits are good. Most of the people are very intelligent; but the type of intelligence where they need a whiteboard to explain their point.

    Cons

I found the company's values to be quite sketchy. Trying to push customers with a 500 FICO into expensive car loans seems like a selfish way to earn a profit. Also, the corporate environment was extremely sterile (the most of any company that I have worked for) and terse. Lastly, I didn't think that the training provided was sufficient in my particular line of work.

    Pros

The pay is good at COAF. There are several great managers in the corporation and also really great oppurtunities to move up within the company.

    Cons

Like most companies immediate managers have a great deal of power over their associates or workers. Here there is too much power given to managers and also so many changes being made without the proper training being provided. They will hold you accountable even had they not provided the proper training to you. I have also seen people fired for personal reasons between a manager and employee. Not a great example of ethical responsibilityffrom a manager. The turn over is more consistant then it was 4 years ago with all the changes in the company and also the people that are being hired for entry positions are alot less professional then 4 years ago.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers are too busy with other misc projects and meetings and associates need proper training on the changes and laws that are being made. Increase the skill requirement and professionalism on new hires

    Pros

Still flexible about time off. (If your a full time employee).

    Cons

    Deteriorating culture.
Increasingly lower pay on bonuses (Through underhanded methods).
Top performers and people who put forth their best efforts aren't rewarded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs to be more concerned about employee morale. All the cake and balloons in the world won't change a lower payscale. People do notice.

    Pros

Flexible hours when you need it
    Wages are strong
    Intelligent staff throughout the organization
Very community-minded with all kinds of great activities

    Cons

Promotions based on who you know vs. work accomplished
    Culture is deteriorating
    Strong players have all left
Weak leadership throughout the organization (not valued)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Manage more than one layer below you. Understand all levels of your employees to see what's truly happening. Throughout my time there, I was amazed at how little upper management truly knew about employees beyond their direct reports. This created a culture of employees being "afraid" to speak out in any way against their direct managers. You lose a lot of great employees this way.
