Great place to start a career

Business Analyst (Former Employee) Richmond, VA

ProsI only worked at capital one for about year, but felt that I gained valuable experience in analytics that I've been able to apply in future roles.

The culture is also great for analytically-minded folk. Ideas are argued based on their merits, and you can have a big impact as a junior analyst if you're good enough.

ConsCapital One makes basically all of their money off tricking poor people into using products they can't afford. They're better than they were (after some big settlements with the federal government) but in most areas of the company you'll need to be comfortable with the fact that you're the type of banker people protest.

Advice to Senior ManagementExpand operations in the bay area and Seattle.

Great experience with a strong management team.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsDirect managers always willing to help they take the time to know their staff so that they do not feel like just a number on the balance sheet.

ConsDedicated employees get lost in the work life balance as they tend to want to overwork to make their plan and overachieve. Keep goals with in reach set in the start of the fiscal year and don't keep changing the goal. Allow the staff to reach a consistent target.

Advice to Senior ManagementStay engaged with the staff continue to balance what is important to both the company and the staff

Good benefits and opportunity advance ments

Bank Teller (Former Employee) Laurel, MD

ProsOver all good atmosphere, the referrals where easy, only 13 per month in my region. I easily doubled that, they provide great hands on training for two weeks and pay for the drive time. I worked with the company for one year, I would have loved to stay with them longer but i moved states and there was no Capital One I could transfer to.

ConsThey are trying to expand across the United States but there are still mostly a eastern coast bank so if you move often (military spouse) it will be difficult to transfer. They didn't offer a pay difference even though i was hired as a bilingual teller. A times they will micro manage and get very pushy, they will would actually sit next to you, make sure you push products even when those customers dont need them

Advice to Senior ManagementThe more pushy you get the less quality you will actually get out of your employyess

    Great company for young professionals

Manager, Financial Analysis (Current Employee) Richmond, VA

ProsCompetitive pay, good work life balance, good people, growth potential, job security is high if you are a high performer and the company is very receptive to moving around departments or geographies

ConsSome departments can be challenging to partner with and slow to make concession that require additional work, low performers seem to stay around too long as well

Teller I (Former Employee) Metairie, LA

ProsThe training process was thorough, and the office culture offered a very team-oriented environment. There were also incentives to perform at your best. There were also fitness initiatives and discount programs offered to employees.

ConsPain customers, meeting referral goals, getting called out for bad reviews

Great company, flexibile work schedule with a rewarding career path

Principal Data Analyst (Current Employee) McLean, VA

ProsGreat culture, good pay, good work life balance, for those that are willing to go the extra mile, there can be good rewards, easy to move around to other jobs within Cap One

ConsSome roles are not very analytical, but since its easy to move around, cant really consider it a major drawback. If you don't like your job role, network and find another role which is more interesting.
