I worked at Capital One full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Co-workers, decent salary and benefits

    Cons

As is with many large cororations, too many layers of management. Micro management in some areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give people the opportunity to grow. Be available, and delegate accordingly.

Former Employee - Teller I in Dulles, VA

I worked at Capital One part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The staff did have some problems at first but once you have a great team that understands each other, you can achieve anything. Love the benefits, salary is really competitive compared to other banks, recognition within the district is also wonderful. Teller are regularly recognized for their hard work. If you want to be something, work hard and you will get there with this company. Extremely sad to be leaving this company.

    Cons

Provide more opportunities for tellers in the growth areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Voice of associates should be taken more seriously. We should be able to provide feedback about our managers.

I worked at Capital One full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexible and collaborative environment. Easy to manage work/life balance. Amazing benefits and competitive pay.

    Cons

The company is focused on bringing technology to the customer by improving their remote banking and reaching customers that are not near a branch site, however internally they struggle with having teams or departments at different sites and don't focus on applying the same technology or remote team management to their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in remote team management, departments can be successful if they are at different sites.

I have been working at Capital One full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Atmosphere, teamwork, work-life balance, culture, people

    Cons

Wish benefits were a little better if I had to choose a con

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote people who don't think the same as you do. There's no growth when you promote people who think the same way you do. You have to be open to other people not 100% agreeing with you. I've seen great talent get passed up because that talent won't see things the way you do and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I have been working at Capital One full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Associates are encouraged to "Live the values" by volunteering in the community, helping others internally, and giving back to open source projects.

Capital One fosters technical development with ample growth opportunities and encouragement to take ownership of your own development.

The pay is very competitive. The benefits are comprehensive including very generous 401k automatic contribution and matching.

    Cons

It's challenging to "Live the values" by helping others and being selfless while also endorsing yourself to be competitive in cross-calibration for performance management.

I have been working at Capital One full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Capital One has an amazing culture where there is a lot of respect for its employees and there is a strong focus on collaboration. While most companies say that "our biggest asset are our people", Capital One actually means it. They strive to bring in the best people and have strong performance management processes aimed at helping people maximize their potential. Capital One offers lots of really interesting opportunities and also has great work/life balance.

    Cons

Capital One had rapid growth in the early years and as a result of its size and maturity the pace of growth has slowed down in recent years.

I have been working at Capital One as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

One of bright thing about working for a new economy company is that it is not tide to the old institutional role of corporate America the work force if full of young bright people of all nationality. I think this is a plus for company for the company will never run out creative way of producing revenue.

    Cons

On the flip-side it is very hard to get a position with the company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work
