I have been working at Cardinal Health full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Working at the IT service center is a 9-5 job. You do not have to worry about it once you leave. Show up on time and adhere to a schedule, and you'll be successful. This is a good "stepping stone" job.

You can telework after 5 years of working at the service center (in general).

    Cons

    Slow to increase pay.
Difficult to move up in the company.
As with any job it can get repetitive and you can get burnt out at times.

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Cardinal Health as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

--The majority of co-workers are friendly

    --Laid-back work environment

--Higher than average pay (compared to other tier I help desk jobs in the area)

    --Thorough training and mentoring

    -- Shift differential (for those that don't work from 9 - 5)

    --Two paid 15 minute breaks

--It beats not having a job

--Great place to work while looking for another job

    Cons

-- Cardinal and my contracting agency screwed up one of my paychecks -- it took 3 weeks for them to fix it

--Takes around 10 - 12 months on average as a contract employee to be hired full-time (Don't let your staffing agency tell you otherwise)

    --Monotonous work

--More customer service skills utilized than IT skills (felt that hiring manager was intentionally not clear about this during interview) -- not a very technical job.

--Some employees, even those in higher positions, malign about other employees behind their backs (toxic workplace)

--Just get rid of cardinal.com already! Cardinal.com is a legacy website, which has been replaced, but Cardinal keeps it because some customers are afraid to switch. Yes, some of the customers like it, but nobody should be using java 6_20 -- which is the version of the JRE that is compatible with cardinal.com. JRE 6_20 has known security issues. Cardinal.com is supposed to be phased out within the next year supposedly, but they should just get rid of it and make customers switch to the sites that were created to replace it -- these sites don't use Java (except CSOS), look better, and are easier to use.

    --Knowledgebase should be redesigned.

--Oh yes, it's true they perform pre-employment hair follicle testing.

I have been working at Cardinal Health full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

opportunity to learn industry and regulatory quickly through consulting segment

    Cons

Many are started as new employees "out of pay band" for their role. The segment is flat with silos in the organizational structure so it is hard to truly "move up" or “across” departments. Promotions do not increase pay accordingly, especially when moving to management levels. Leadership positions are blocked by legacy mentality or by the silo’s inherent to the organization structure. Billing targets are the only metric of success and incentive/motivation. No career development, continuing education, or training due to a billing driven structure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider and value the actual voice of your employee. Talent retention and true talent growth/promotion from within is vital to maintaining your product which is the consultant and his/her knowledge base. No consultant equals no product and that leads to not meeting the billing targets.
