I have been working at Cardno full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Large corporation that managed to weather the economic storm of 2008 - present. Strong suite of services (some are commendable).

    Cons

May be a good company to work for - in about five years. This is a word of warning to potential employees: Let the dust settle before you risk working for a company that's still trying to find its north star. Top management talks a good talk, but it becomes clear after the gloss fades that their lofty goals are based on dollars in their back pockets, with no anticipated trickle-down effect to the workers. Vertical accountability with no teamwork makes for a difficult work environment. If you need professional mentoring, look elsewhere. It's every man/woman for him/herself right now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We see potential "lifetime" career-minded employees at all levels jumping ship. Your growth goals are impressive, getting there with your current employees would be much more impressive. Blaming your missed company-wide goals on the economic environmental has become a lame (worn-out) excuse. Blaming it on the reduction of an environmental-response (i.e. short term) project makes you appear short-sighted. Blaming it on the weather makes you appear that you didn't know how to "save for a rainy day."

I have been working at Cardno part-time for more than a year

    Pros

very flexible, Co-workers are great to work with, office environment is great. Willing to spend money on new equipment, which cuts down on field work time.

    Cons

The pay is awful, never recognized for hard work. After being bought out a lot of higher management is jumping ship.

I have been working at Cardno full-time for more than a year

    Pros

This is a steady job with a steady income. There is a lot of freedom in this office to create your own schedule and work style.

    Cons

This office lacks leadership and useful training. In a entry level position I have found it difficult to gain skills or direction for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put the time in to properly train your new employees. Training mudules do not replace leadership and strong project managers.

I have been working at Cardno full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Employees are great to work with despite negativity from branch manager.

    Cons

Petaluma branch manager is a bully and manipulates staff. Loads staff up on work forcing them to work overtime with little to no acknowledgement of the long hours and hard work put in by staff. Low pay for amount of work and expertise staff holds.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Replace branch manager with personnel who can effectively manage staff and business requirements someone who is not a bully and manipulative.

    I worked at Cardno full-time

    Pros

Middle and upper level coworkers are great on a personal level. Open door policy with the higher level people. You can learn a lot here with the right attitude. 401k and profit sharing are better than average however on the slight decline with the poor economy which is expected. Big company backing should yield more varied opportunities in the future.

    Cons

Owners were aware of the "eggs in one basket" scenario for a while which has lead to job loss for many due to contract changes. The majority of the work with the company is in petroleum remediation/consulting. There is a huge push to diversify however it has not come to fruition. At times you will be required to work long hours and more than 40 hrs/week is expected. As others have said, work/life balance can suffer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management knows and would agree with the statements above.

I have been working at Cardno full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Interesting projects and good people to work with on a daily basis. The parent company Cardno seems to care about employees. Benefits are slightly above industry average. I really enjoy working with the people in my office.

    Cons

Lack of client diversification affects salary, benefits, and job security. Accounting and human resource departments seems to be understaffed. I've had low work-life balance over the last three years because of a large project. The company has been slow to respond when additional staff is needed. Executives communicate poorly with staff.
