    Pros

Good people to work with-very team oriented.

    Cons

Horrible product. It is truly a shame that they are able to pass it off as an "education."

I have been working at Career Education

    Pros

You are employed and can look for something better. Each campus has its own vibe so it matters which campus you work.

    Cons

Confusion on a corporate level makes for chaos on a campus level. The attorneys run the company. Policies are very reactive and not well thought out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micro-managing and strengthen processess and infrastructure

    Pros

Great opportunity for those who don't have experience

    Cons

If you know who to be buddy with and play the game, you will survive. It is very cliquey and political in various departments. It is for "every man" for themselves." If you work hard, they give you more work than another person. If you don't do well and still do more than your fair share, they will look down on you and reprehend you.

    Pros

If you are willing to work a lot for little pay, and put up with incompetent management, then your position can be stable for several years.

    Cons

Employees are trained to mislead potential new students and make them sign up for expensive courses that will serve no purpose in their career. The bosses hire and promote only their mostly incompetent friends, while long time employees with perfect track records are not seeing pay increases even after 7+ years of work, while piling up a large amount of responsibilities on them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to create a user manual for employee performance review, and promote those who actually deserve it.

    I worked at Career Education

    Pros

The benefits were very good when compared with the current industry, also the medical insurance was the least expensive when compared to others in the private sector.

    Cons

Worked almost 80 hours a week and even had to work through my vacation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create an open channel communication and use employees that have the capacity to help the organization; stop promoting favorites and placing individuals in high positions that do not have the knowledge, the experience, nor the proper education to lead. In addition, stop placing previous admission personnel as presidents or any other higher positions within the organization; these individuals do not have a clue about education and give a bad name to your organization. This has to be one of the only companies that do not take into consideration the CV rather is who you know and associate with. I suggest that the organization needs an overhaul from top to bottom, if they do not have an idea, please hire a third party team of Organizational Development Practitioners to improve the aforesaid negative remarks.

    Pros

Work hours offered a good work/life balance. The benefits were good. The corporate office location on Martingale rd was very nice.

    Cons

Management lacked leadership and guidance. High turnover and lots of lay offs. Managers micro managed and no room for growth

I have been working at Career Education full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The compensation is okay for a recent college grad. Overtime is great! Some of management is okay. I enjoy the people I work with.

    Cons

Some of management pretend to be professional but they are not. They are very manipulative. Management belittles employees and micro manages. Many of the coworkers I work with have degrees but management treats them like they cannot function with daily supervision. Management seems to simply want minions not individuals who can think for themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should stop belittling the employees and treat them with respect.

Good entry level opportunity if still working on degree

    Cons

Zero opportunity for advancement, unless you know someone.

    Pros

No pros with this company, wish I never worked there. The experience was only good to be with the students.

    Cons

Disorganized and low pay scale. Promotes non thinkers whom run company name and reputation into the ground.

I have been working at Career Education full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

They have good benefits and decent compensation.

    Cons

You may have to work weekends. There is no such thing as job security. You are only as good as your last numbers. Admissions Advisors at some of their school are given a scorecard each month and graded according to metrics that are unrealistic and sometimes in conflict with one another. These scorecards keep changing. They have a system to listen in on phone calls and the grades given on these phone calls are part of the scorecard metrics. Nobody knows the grading system because it keeps changing and it is not objective. People are promoted based on their connection. If you are over age forty, forget about ever getting a promotion. They have a "no fault" attendance policy where you get occurences for any absences that were not pre-approved. There is a progressive disciplinary system for dealing with these which means that you can be written up for making legitimate use of sick leave that you have accrued. There is so much pressure for enrollments that advisors will enroll almost anyone who is breathing. Their senior management are true amateurs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees and don't treat them as numbers. Remember that you are in your position mainly because you did a decent job and moved up because your friends had moved up before you.
