    Pros

Decent people, stable hours. Reasonable compensation.

    Cons

If you don't use the right font in your email, or highlight an excel document with the wrong color, you'll hear about it. You are constantly being managed and critiqued for worthless things. Horrible track record with the DOE.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let your people grow and manage in their minds eye, don't clone everyone.

    Pros

My time working for CEC was enjoyable mostly due to the outstanding group of individuals I worked with. We worked well together, survived many challenging times, brainstormed and overcame many obstacles. Similarly, I thoroughly enjoyed the student body! I loved watching the students change professionally and personally as they progressed throughout the programs!

    Cons

Unfortunately the top management of CEC became way too financially driven and tried to go to big too quickly and faced serious challenges when the industry took a drastic turn for the worst. Tons of micromanaging from the Corporate level.

    Pros

Good schedules for live chat advisors because they offer us 3 days off in a row... and we work 10 hour shifts.

    Cons

Favoritism is definitely shown by the managers, they do not lead by a good example. For instance, they will bad mouth you for being a few minutes late, yet they come in late and leave early everyday.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come to work on time, your employes look up to you regardless of age, so do as you would want your employees to do. The team is exactly what it says. TEAM. so if you are doing favors for just a few particular people but telling the rest of the team different and we all talk and find out about these things, so if you have to "stick to the rules" then do just that and stick to the rules regardless if one of your employes is your favorite.

I worked at Career Education full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It is a solid, good place to work. Like anywhere, some great people, and lots of not-so-great people. Can be a great place to gain experience and the benefits are better than average. Great tuition reimbursement programs.

    Cons

Advancement is a crapshoot. Continual restructuring will have more to do with deserved and undeserved promotion than the merit and contributions of those involved. Rich soil for underhanded and manipulative types. Odd, uninformed group-think culture with the collective pension to revise history and fact while adhering to heuristics that are outdated or simply incorrect.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nobody else has a worthwhile assessment or understanding of the company and its difficulties and all of your decisions are perfectly without error or redundancy. This is how you would interpret any preceding statement regardless of how beneficial it might be to actually consider. Besides, in a year or two, you'll just be off to the next host company.

    Pros

Fair compensation and benefits, learned a lot of the education system

    Cons

Too many changes in courses where collateral went to waste because not too much thought put into it.

    Pros

Great people, good management style overall. Benefits and possible growth opportunities. Overall atmosphere is positive and employees respect each other.

    Cons

Limited growth opportunities which are dependent on space. Policies which seem outdated or unnecessary such as mandatory, hour-long unpaid lunches.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to find ways to make this a good place for employees to build careers rather than just jobs.

I worked at Career Education full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Overall, I enjoyed my nearly 3 years with the company. I had a good degree of latitude to be creative, collaborate with peers and work closely with students at the campus level. The salary was competitive, other benefits were standard (nothing spectacular and the health premiums, like many companies, continue to escalate).

    Cons

In my estimation, this company is in dire straights. I started with this company in 2011 and by the end of 2012, the campus I worked for - along with many others around the country - were placed into "teach out". This set off a chain of events which, among other hard aspects, was the fact that staff/employee, not to mention student, morale went south quickly. On top of that, they company significantly "right-sized" their workforce by reducing corporate employees drastically (corporate speak for mass layoffs). 2013 was brutal. 2014 looks to be the same.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The big question is: Will there be a CEC in 2015 and what will it look like? I sincerely hope they can figure it out, because I continue to believe that, at the end of the day, the rank-and-file employees, especially at the campus level, took the students and graduates interest to heart.
