    Pros

Fair compensation and benefits, learned a lot of the education system

    Cons

Too many changes in courses where collateral went to waste because not too much thought put into it.

    Pros

Great people, good management style overall. Benefits and possible growth opportunities. Overall atmosphere is positive and employees respect each other.

    Cons

Limited growth opportunities which are dependent on space. Policies which seem outdated or unnecessary such as mandatory, hour-long unpaid lunches.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to find ways to make this a good place for employees to build careers rather than just jobs.

It was overall good experience, but...

I worked at Career Education full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Overall, I enjoyed my nearly 3 years with the company. I had a good degree of latitude to be creative, collaborate with peers and work closely with students at the campus level. The salary was competitive, other benefits were standard (nothing spectacular and the health premiums, like many companies, continue to escalate).

    Cons

In my estimation, this company is in dire straights. I started with this company in 2011 and by the end of 2012, the campus I worked for - along with many others around the country - were placed into "teach out". This set off a chain of events which, among other hard aspects, was the fact that staff/employee, not to mention student, morale went south quickly. On top of that, they company significantly "right-sized" their workforce by reducing corporate employees drastically (corporate speak for mass layoffs). 2013 was brutal. 2014 looks to be the same.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The big question is: Will there be a CEC in 2015 and what will it look like? I sincerely hope they can figure it out, because I continue to believe that, at the end of the day, the rank-and-file employees, especially at the campus level, took the students and graduates interest to heart.

I worked at Career Education full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

My time spent working at CTU was good; their leadership team is much more aggressive and forward thinking than many of the other schools or the corporate CEC team. Flexible work schedule.

    Cons

The industry went from great to bad very quickly. During my time there I had 3 different bosses within my first 9 months of employment. Many leaders were promoted too quickly without the proper development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more autonomy to the schools and invest more in the proper development of your employees.

    Pros

Lots of opportunity for professional development. Flexibility in schedule was great with some telecommuting offered.

    Cons

Not much of an atmosphere or connection - a big corporate machine.

I worked at Career Education full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good pay; good co-workers; company does employee events such as holiday parties, and gives permission for departments to hold their own celebrations; there can be some flexibility with work hours to give a slightly better work/life balance.

    Cons

Policies vary across the company and are hard to keep track of; training is not comprehensive across the board; bureaucracy can get in the way of solutions being implemented; no real potential for advancement in my particular department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure you hire the right person for the right job, in regards to employees, managers, and higher-ups. Enforce standardized policies across all schools and levels of business.

    Pros

Good opportunity for entry level college faculty. Anyone who would like to get their first opportunity as college faculty member could get some experience here.

    Cons

Constant course schedule changes make it difficult to hold onto faculty for more than a semester. The pay is low for the faculty about half of what they could be paid at a traditional college.
