I have been working at Caribou Coffee full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - The product is amazing. They're always keeping it fresh, local, and innovative.
    - The culture is fun and the company always thinks "outside of the box."
    - The company really works on being action oriented and listening to their employees. They take regular team member engagement surveys, and shares those results publicly.

    Cons

    - Too many unrealistic expectations and demands for management.
    - There's not enough in store support for store managers.
    - Demanding work load and long days/hours.
    - Being responsible for your store 24/7. I've seen other managers miss out on their vacations, important family events, and the lack a real work/life balance.
    - The compensation and bonus structure is terrible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Pay your people for the hard work that they actually do. You expect way to much from your Store Managers, and you pay them significantly less then your competitors.
    - Financially invest in creating a position for store managers to have some store level support.
    - District managers often end up as "middle men" and never put on an apron to help behind the counter.
    - Set realistic expectations. Your eco-sure visits kill morale and set impossible expectations. I find it ridiculous that a store can pass a health inspection with flying colors, but "fail" your eco-sure audits because they scored below an 80%.
    - Give your teams 1 - 3 priorities instead of several things to execute perfectly. (Ie., labor, staffing, guest satisfaction, cogs, operating expenses, eco-sure, controllable profit, seasonal promotions, etc.) What's most important to you? No one is superman.

    Pros

I've learned to make coffee drinks, tips, schedule is flexible

    Cons

I wish it wasn't the fast food of coffee, because it's impossible sometimes to make a quality drink when you have a long line that has to be gotten through ASAP.

I have been working at Caribou Coffee full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent trend of care for both customers and employees.
    Free coffee
    Fun, relaxed work environment
    Make your own schedule
    Wonderful benefits

    Cons

Sales goals are not an option or a goal - they must be met at any expense
No work life balance. Expect to get up at 3:30AM or work as late as 12:30AM in some locations
You are never off of work. Calls can come at anytime and you are expected to answer
Little to no room to move up past store management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget what made your company great. Focus on employees and customer relationships and sales will follow just as they have the last decade. This crazy push for sales, comps, and cold calling is not in the spirit of Caribou.

I worked at Caribou Coffee part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great customer interaction and the company has endless learning resources. A laid back company compared to Starbucks. They are great about employee development and advancement opportunities.

    Cons

The pay is typical coffee shop pay which is low. They figure tips make up for it, but tips aren't consistent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate doesn't take advice from actual store employees when implementing changes. Store employees know best what does and doesn't work.

    Cons

Lack of testing for new promotional products

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recent promotions make me wonder whether or not ideas are truly tried and tested before launches. I'm sure they are to some degree, but corporate decisions make me wonder at times!

I have been working at Caribou Coffee part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Amazing atmosphere, meeting many nice people. Gateway into communities. Also relatively simple job responsibilities. Lots of free coffee and discounts at any caribou location

    Cons

I worked at a caribou with a drive thru which can get very hectic at times. You have to be careful not to burn yourself on coffee (I have seen many 2nd degree burns)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some managers have no people skills whatsoever. No idea how they got into the company, they run great numbers but lose employees who will talk negatively about an another wise great company
